ealgepedia revisited July 27, 2007 Take off and landing, the time in flight of most danger for an eagle. Lift is the weakest at take off because full speed has not been achieved and at the landing because the speed of the bird is being reduced. The size of the wing is what determines how much lift is made as well as the angle of the wing to the air. This increases the air speed over the wing and produces more lift. Birds change their wing size, lower flaps, open slots, use the wind, and increase their speed by flapping their wings faster. Larger birds have a harder time getting into the air. They need a strong wind or they land on cliffs so they can leap off to begin their next flight. http://wings.avkids.com/Book/Animals/inter...e/birds-01.html ![]() Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

Good morning Sunshines. Deb, that was a horrific accident. So sad that children and innocent people lost their lives. Didn't get a chance to chat with everyone last night. A major severe thunder and lightning storm was in our area. WOW, can you say Thunder and lightning and buckets and buckets of rain. Kept me awake most of the night. Started around 9:20pm and continued until after about 3:00am. I think I really need some coffee. I missed chatting with Elaine Ruth. Hi Elaine . Good to see you on chat. I hope to catch you on chat soon.Gotta :soar: |

Peeps Something to make you from Doug Carrick on Tuesday9:20 am - While Hope and Pa were perched in the Peters' Tree, Ma flew down to the shoreline and dragged a dogfish onto the beach. She flew it to Dinner Rock and began tearing into it. Hope was screeping frantically. Ma flew away with the dogfish and Pa immediately flew down to the sea, about ten feet from Dinner Rock, dunked into the water and pulled out the tail end of the dogfish (which must have broken off). Pa took this to the beach. Hope flew down, in a perfectly controlled glide and landed 6 feet from Pa and the fish. She charged forward, knocking Pa back from the fish, took if from him and dragged it 10 feet away, mantling all the time. She is learning all the skills of survival. ....and something to make you Farewell Sidney Bald Eagles ![]() Click on image for Video by Beans (4:20) |

Today in history: 1861 The federal government levied an income tax for the first time. 1884 The cornerstone for the Statue of Liberty was laid on Bedloe's Island in New York Harbor. 1957 "American Bandstand," hosted by Dick Clark, made its network TV debut on ABC. Birthdays: 79 Neil Armstrong 64 Loni Anderson and less than 150 day until Christmas (I'm too lazy to do the math this AM) |

Good morning everyone. Computer has been down and out since Sunday afternoon sometime. Actually, the on line connection would not connect.Interesting - anyone on earthlink? They supposedly had outages in some areas. I was able to connect briefly and checked. Then called their support folks. One of the things they wanted me to do to check the line was to unplug the telephone line going from modem to wall outlet... and turn it the opposite way and plug it back in. I knew they had issues and told the guy in India that It was behind furniture, and I didn't have time at that point and I would call back. He gave me a "case #" to reference when I called again. I called again yesterday and explained that "I knews they had issues" and "when is it going to be taken care of?" Supposedly, it was back in service at that time. He had me check the modem, and said that they would replace the modem, no charge. I would just have to pay shipping.I am currently working off the old modem. I think it may be incompatible with a change they made - and that is why they are shipping me a "free" one. (???) Anyway, have to be away part of the day. The new modem is supposed to arrive this morning (hopefully before we have to leave). Just wanted to say and everything will keep working. Got to catch up on Chat later! Hope all is well with you.

copying my comments here : I think Pat posted yesterday - the earlier fledged juvies are of course moving around the island - venturing farther and farther away from their home nests - and will hopefully begin to hook up with the other juvies! they will begin socializing ....... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agb3Gef_fCI pat's clip from yesterday - really good........ Steff's updates will more and more confirm the juvies beginning and continuing to hang together - lots of that took place last year! Maybe this week's update will show some of that beginning to happen! great job NO reporters - great captures by all too! |
