Hi Everybody,

This week I have managed to get visuals on all the young eagles. The fact that they still spend most of the time around their territories does help, but as they get older, they’ll start to wander farther away and pretty soon their parents wont be feeding them anymore so they’ll have to find their own food.
I have not had to make a trip to either Two Harbors (TH) or the West End (WE) since the juveniles keep coming back to the actual nests and so it is not necessary to look for them myself. As many of you know, those two locations are quite far from town, 1 ½ and 2hours drive respectively, plus 30minutes of hiking so it’s always nice to see them pop up on the cams everyday.
Yesterday, an unidentified juvenile visited the WE juveniles. I wasn’t in the area to see who it could have been based on their signals but I’m pretty sure it was one of the TH chicks. Last time Pete was out there he spotted one of them flying out towards the WE and he also got the signal of the other TH juvenile coming from the same area, and given they are two of the older ones this year, they will probably start heading out west as they have always done in previous years.
Here’s the video of the third juvenile at the WE.

(Thanks cam viewers!)

Like I mentioned before, this week I saw all the chicks at least once and got good signals on them every couple of days.
Here’s a short video ok K94, one of the Twin Rocks (TR) juvenile flying high over the nest area.

Here’s his sibling K96 perched a few hundred feet above the TR nest.

Over the weekend I went looking for the east end juveniles, K90 and K99.
I arrived to the Seal Rocks (SR) and K90’s signal was a little week. After a few minutes of looking for him it started getting stronger and all the sudden there he was, being chased by two red-tailed haws. He was flying really far away and I tried to get some video but against the blue sky you cant really tell there’s anything there.
He finally landed though, so I took one picture and he decided to leave once again.

I went out looking for the Pinnacle Rock (PR) juvenile, K99, that day as well.
This is normally where I tend to spot her since it’s a great view of the coast.

I waited for a while until she showed up, flying from the west towards the nest.
So I hiked to the next observation spot and there she was, patiently waiting for her parents to drop off some food.

This week I also picked up K00’s signal in the interior of the island. K00 is one of the two PR chicks hatched naturally in 2007 (the other chick, K71, died that same year).

I’d like to say good-bye with another breathtaking Catalina sunset

Until next week,
Steffani

Dear Steffani,

I'm glad all of the eaglets are making it easy for you. In no time at all, they'll have you running all over the place, just like regular teenagers.

Thanks, as ever, for a great update and terrific pictures of all "the kids."
