Meet Rook The World's Cleverest Bird ![]() ![]() Click image for video (:54) Story by Sarah Bloch for The Times Online August 7, 2009 As the 2000-year-old story goes, the crow filled the bucket of water with stones until the level became high enough for him to quench his thirst. Just a fable? Apparently not. Footage shows a rook - a relation of the crow - performing the feat to reach a worm floating on the water's surface. The study, published by Current Biology, says that crows are innovative tool users, even though they are not known to use tools in the wild. Footage of the experiments shows the rook first assessing the water level by peering at the tube from above and from the side, before picking up and dropping the stones into the water. The birds were extremely accurate, using the exact number of stones needed to raise the worm to a height where they could reach it. Kris and Ed I hope you see this ![]() and in our morning paper today.... "A new study by researchers at Oxford University indicates that crows are even smarter than we thought. Crows in captivity in New Caledonia spontaneously figured out how to use tools to accomplish a task -- they used three straws of different lengths in the right order to get at a bit of food. No other animal has ever done this without specific training for it." Ravin' About Them Crows |

Elaine Y is one of us, although she has not been able to Post yet due to this illness. Let's Heal her as we did Tom last year. I know from the bottom of my heart we can do this. Penny thanks so much sharing for the food transfer pictures. They were amazing to look at. |

Cricket, good thoughts and prayers going to Elaine Y. One of our Wright Flyer Team members was 85 and fighting bladder cancer. The doctors "seeded" the cancer rather than damaging the whole area. They had to remove quite a bit, but ended up rebuilding his bladder. I don't remember how they did it (using colon or something else). Last I heard, he was doing fine! Tell Elaine they are doing some amazing things. Joe went through a lot of procedures too. Hang in there Elaine! |

http://carolynspreciousmemories.com/Videos...nernieford.html OMG this is one of the funniest clips I have ever seen with Tennesee Ernie Ford. Watch his son to his right our left. Cracked me up, and Tennesee Ernie Ford almost lost it! |

Good morning all. Just read the Updates! Still fussing with the connection issue on the computer. I was able to be on line about six hours yesterday. Was able to catch up in Chat. At 9:30 pm went off line, and could not get back on, so called it a night. This morning, it took me about an hour and a half to stabilize my on line connection. Then I went out and chewed on Earthlink's ear through live chat. Hope everyone has a great day! |

Laurie I know. He truly was a Professional. I started roaring when it first started. Now my sides hurt, but in a good way. Marti he certainly has rhythm. I haven't laughed so hard in years! I haven't stopped everytime I think about it. I've looked at it a few times now, and noticed the sweet blond that reminds me of LaLa's Summer. The little boy at the end must have had to go potty bad. He made a fast exit! |
