Regan your pictures are all beautiful. Looking forward to seeing more especially the Orca's and Eagles. Glad to see you are enjoying your vacation. Peetie good to see you in here but you are probably off to the Farm as I am writing this. Carlea I am so happy to hear your brother was moved from the hospital to a Wound Care Place. It will be a long time but if he is determined and with the love of the family I think he can make the time shorter. This is my prayer for all of you. Just had a tune up done on my pocket rocket to the sum of over $500.00! Will stop by the garage to get the Invoice, since they forgot to bring it when they brought the car back to me. Seems like a LOT for a 4 cyl. car! Another HOT day here in the Philly Burbs. These must be the dog days of summer! Looking forward to this weekend. Saturday I want to go to Peace Valley Park and look for the nest of Eagles which has 3 fledglings in it. Sunday George and I will be at a Dog Show my Club is having. I know he'll have some nice pictures to Post here afterwards. |

Hi Vera so good to see you posting once again. You were missed. A LOT of people went to the FarmTown . Peetie for one stops back every day at least once to check on us. I was trying to keep up with the Milestone Postings, but I can't fit in her shoes! She was go good at it. Don't get me wrong she still does some but I try to catch some too. Peetie does it with FLAIR adding Graphics at times. Unfortunately I can't do those things. |

PANDA UPDATE........ Monday, August 17 Can you walk and chew gum at the same time? Well Xi Lan probably could, or at least he can chew a biscuit and climb the structure at the same time. As you may have read previously, we have been giving him some biscuits and banana as part of his diet, but it is not always easy to do. The reason, Lun! If she sees him with something or knows that he is about to receive a treat, she will take it away from him. We have to continually think of different ways and give it at different times, so that “missy piggy pants” does not take it away for herself. Today, after shifting him in from outside, I gave him a biscuit at the door and he ran away, trying to get up the tree before his mother got to him. Along the way I could see his mouth moving as if he was trying to soften it up, so that by the time that he reached the top it was nice and soft and easy to eat. Joseph T. Svoke Carnivore Keeper III Will the next hit song be "Smelly Tree"? .....

Peetie-Here's a story from the newspaper in Santa Maria. Santa Maria is closer to the fire area than us here. http://www.santamariatimes.com/articles/20.../breaking15.txt Forest closure area increased due to wildfire Hotshots continue hand work in wilderness area Staff report * U.S. Forest Service officials have increased the closure area of Los Padres National Forest lands around the La Brea Fire burning east of Santa Maria. Until further notice, the expanded emergency closure prohibits public entry to all national forest lands, trails, roads and recreation sites within the closure area. The closure includes virtually all of the San Rafael Wilderness, and extends into the Dick Smith Wilderness on the east end. It also includes the popular Figueroa Mountain Recreation Area, the upper portion of Happy Canyon Road and the Nira trailhead area. Forest areas west of the wilderness area and north of the Sierra Madre ridge also are included. With containment now complete on all fire lines outside the wilderness area where the fire began, crews continue to build lines by hand within the wilderness. Eight Hotshot crews are focusing today on landscape rehabilitation in the steep, rugged terrain, with air support as backup. Those efforts are meant to reduce the risk of erosion from fire suppression work by building water bars and placing dead vegetation back on indirect fire lines, officials said. Inside the wilderness, crews face a challenge from extreme burning conditions, according to officials. Tuesday night, crews continued to hold and mop-up areas 300 feet inside the fire containment line. The fire is now listed as having charred 89,015 acres and remains at 75 percent contained. What was once a firefighting force of more than 2,100 has dwindled to 1,505 personnel, including 55 engines, 49 hand crews, 14 bulldozers, 11 helicopters and five fixed-wing aircraft. Fire suppression costs are estimated at $24 million. |
