Actually, it is a male. Male American kestrels have much more colorful plumage than the females, particularly the orange over the tail and the bright blue on the wings. The bird on the video is flitting about a lot so you have to be watching for it, but it's definitely got the beautiful colors of a male. The AK is one of the only raptor species which can be distinguished male from female based on plumage. "You might find me perched on your mist net pole The color of our plumage defines our roles It's easy to tell the boys from the girls It's the boys that wear the pearls (American kestrel)"

How about the tune by bobby mcFarren (sp?) "Dont worry, be happy!"? I survived my hike into philly this am but am now exhausted. I had no problem picking up the shrew sister's blackberry which surprised me. However, the post office was another story. I went to one post office to pick up a VHS tape sized box and packed the phone up en route back home. I went into another post office substation to mail it via priority mail, insured with delivery confirmation. First mistate by me was putting the insured label on upside down. Postal clerk gives me a dirty look and removes it and puts it on "correctly" Mistake two: After telling him that i want to insure the box for $400 he tells me the cost was $11.25. At wich point i said to cancel the insurance and just send it priority with del confirmation. Which yielded another nastier dirty look from the counter clerk. Finally by 10am the box was paid for and shipped for a cost of $5.65. The difference in price makes one wonder. Does the post office really lose or damage that much mail to warrant almost $6 to insure a box for $400 |

Ian - Another lesson learned. Just for comparison, the male cardinal is also much brighter and prettier than the female who is greenish in colour rather than the bright red plumage. (but he doesn't wear pearls  ) |

Good night Peetie. Sweet Dreams. I see where you lit a candle. It really was not worth responding to. Someone needs to go back on Meds. again. I light candles for all Cruzr's who Post their needs here. I DO NOT pry into anyone's Personal Matters. We all need each others help from time to time, and I am only too happy to do my fair share and help others out. Anyone who would begrudge another of this common courtesy is terribly sick. I will pray for her too! OK George I got your last e-mail. If there are any changes just let me know. Please remind me to pack the two chairs in my car for the Show. |

I'm finally home. Puttering around getting some house w@@k done. Less I have to do tomorrow on my final summer hour week. I seem to have acquired a new pet in my house. A cute little chipmunk. Do local hardware stores usually carry the havahart traps? Poor little thing must be scared, since Coleman seems to like to play. It's been hiding out under the stove, I found lots of Coleman's food under the stove. While I like chipmunks I don't like them in my house, and I especially don't want Coleman to hurt it. |

George are those ugly bugs the ones making the racket outside? I'm tempted to trip the Burglar Alarm just to shut them up. Every Summer they do this, and it bad when you can hear them in your home and it awakens you. There must be thousands of them around here. Glad to hear they are dying out now. |
