It was a mets mistake of very very BAD Baserunning on that play as well. The mistake was running with none out untill the ball had either bounced or been caught. In my life , i have only seen two unassisted triple plays the one yesterday and one live and in person about 10 years ago by another phillies second baseman by the name of micky morandini. So out of the 15 unassisted triple plays in baseball history ive seen two as they happend. Maybe i should go and play the lottery this week?? Last game ending unassisted triple play was in may of 1927 . when Detroit Tigers first baseman Johnny Neun also turned the trick on May 31, 1927, completing a 1-0 victory over Cleveland |

No, George, that is called "runners going on the pitch" and being damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don't because a line drive was hit right at someone - the worst possible thing to happen when runners are going on the pitch. Then it is one of those things that - as a base runner - you can only hope you have room to get into a rundown and someone throws the ball away - and in that case the baserunner had no shot. |

Nice tune for this am. I was thinking of using "just another manic Monday" from The Bangles As for tomorrow....The Moody Blues' "Tuesday Afternoon" would work for me

I have seen one in person. I wasn't sure what had happened. All of a sudden all the players were leaving the field. I would definitely get a lottery ticket! |

Just heard a story about the VERY VERY BAD 1962 mets and The Phantom Triple play. Grounder to third base where the third baseman supposedly hit the bag, tossed around the horn where the second baseman also missed the bag. Upon review of the films the batter was thrown out by the second baseman but umpire ruled him safe. Fans at the old Shea were going bonkers thinking it was but thier jaws dropped when the umps all did the safe signs. NY Daily News headline today for sports reads "SUDDEN DEATH" |

Then that's not going on the pitch! Two down and no one out, 2 strikes on the batter, down 2 runs - the manager's call for that situation WOULD be to send the runners, but it's imperative the batter try to hit it on the ground and hopes it finds a hole. Poor luck is all. I can say I was in the stadium and not too far from the play for what had to be the only time the catcher tagged two people out back-to-back. |

oh my gosh - we are dying here at the office! Catalina Airport (yes the one we all know and love - buffalo burgers - lunch with Peter/Steff) is going to soon be selling their famous cookies online - WELL I opened my mouth last spring and I get to be the mailing test dummy to see how well the cookies ship - crumbs or cookie! My shipment just arrived and we're all enjoying oatmeal/chocolate chip and oatmeal/peanut butter cookies from Catalina! To die for ...........................
