I just came inside and on FOX News there was a live shot of a huge fire in the mountains near Pasadena. The video was shot looking down the street our condo is on right from the corner of our building.

Holy Hannah and there have 6,000 people evacuted in the area so far. :8O: :8O: :8O:

Thanks for taking us along on your trip, Holly.  You did it exactly right. :)^  Denali is a beautiful eagle and your pictures of him/her and the others are gorgeous!  Did they say what made any of them non-releaseable?

Jann, I took this from the Cascades Raptor Center web site as they tell it much better than I:

"Denali means "the high one." She was born on Kodiak Island off the Alaskan coast and was rescued on the ground with a wing injury when she was less than a year old. She was taken to the Bird TLC in Anchorage, where they tried months of physical therapy, including cold laser treatments, but Denali was unable to fully extend her right wing. She joined Wind Over Wings in Clinton CT in May of 2000. At that time it was assumed she was a year old, based on eye, beak and feather coloring. Denali is a wonderful, curious bird. She eagerly learned to step up on a glove in preparation for a life in education. She came to CRC in December 2007, when health issues required her primary handler to reduce some of her load. WOW picked CRC as their number one choice for Denali's new home, where she would get excellent care and the attention she deserves."

"Amazon, a larger eagle, broke both her wings in June 1995, when she fell from her nest at about one month of age. The right wing healed perfectly, but the left wing, which had an open fracture with exposed bone ends, maggots, and a major infection, did not, leaving her incapable of flight. She cannot be returned to the wild because of her injuries."

"Orion, a small male, was apparently tossed by the whirling air from a speeding truck near LaPine in 1990, tearing ligaments in his right shoulder. He was a popular education bird at the High Desert Museum in Bend for 17 years, and then was transferred to CRC in September 2007. Since he was injured as an adult, his age is unknown."

Athena, the bald eagle at the Portland Zoo had issues with her weak flying ability and was deemed non-releasable. The golden eagle lost one of her eyes in an accident. A couple of birds were there because of human imprint.

I fell in love with Denali the first time I ever saw her, as you can probably tell by all the pictures of her!!! She is just wonderful. I first saw Orion at the High Desert Museum many years ago.

Oh I am safe alright catM because I am at home in Canada......but what about all the people who are under mandatory evacuaton orders???

Mina lives in Altadena and I am not sure if there are other Cruzers who have to leave their homes in Glendale, La Canada, La Crescenta and in Big Tujunga Canyon.

Firefighters said it is the fastest growing fire they have ever seen that is not being pushed by Santa Ana winds.

Hi Cruzers!

Hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday and that our California Cruzers are all safe from the fires. The fires sound like they are quite ferocious!

Holly...thanks for sharing your pictures! I think Denali is just gorgeous too.

Enjoyed the Squish fix. I hope Xi Lan had a wonderful 1st birthday. Such a cutie! <3

Congrats to the Chula Vista Little Leaguers. I used to live near there in Imperial Beach when I was a little girl.

Holly, loved the eagle pictures etc.

And Carole, thanks for posting those precious baby panda videos.

Yes, I'm near the fires, and so far safe. Last night I could see the flames from my bedroom and that was pretty scary. The smoke was so bad that I had to completely close up the house. Needless to say, we haven't been getting very much sleep. The evacuation area comes down to just a few blocks from my house. Today, the smoke is somewhat better and the temps seem to be only about 100, as opposed to 110. By the way, if anyone is interested, the LA Times website has maps of the evacuation areas and where the fire is. They update it every few hours.

I'm sure you're packed up & ready to get out should you need to Mina. Remember, your life is more valuable than things. :D Praying for your safety & that of your home. It's about 91 here. Glad that your temps are a bit down, but 100 is still awful.

Blooming in a pot in my backyard this weekend-
Posted Image
Katie likes to sit behind me on the pillow behind my back at work, but then I get up & she will sit there for a bit longer!
Posted Image
Katie is often sweet to George & gives his head a bath! They're both in front of my monitor which sometimes makes it hard to work! :)

All clickables.
