National Trail Mix Day

When you head out to a campout, a hike or to go biking, take the Trail Mix along with you. It provides the extra energy boost to keep you from tiring along the way, and allows you to reach your destination full of pep. Don't limit trail mix to the trail. It is also good at campouts.

Happy trails to you!

I was devastated when all my favorite stuff was prohibited (for me) in my trail mix. Now I have to make do with crackers – not the same!

Prayers to our CA Peeps that they are safe from all the fires.

Wrote an email to our project leader (who lives in Pasadena or Altadena and is a Professor at Cal Tech Pasadena) to see if he was safe. No reply as yet.

Team members on PV were about 3 - 5 miles from that fire. So far, so good.

I have that "sick feeling in my stomach" the past two days. There is a weather system heading west/northwest which initially they colored Yellow (low probability of turning into a hurricane), then it changed or Orange (30 to 50 percent chance), and then it went back to yellow. Yesterday and today, it is Red :o which means that there is a 50 + percent chance of it developing into a hurricane.

Here is what I saw this morning on the NOAH hurricane site...

(Everybody, turn in that direction and BLOW real hard and send it away.)

Topa, the weather report is back! :)^

Looks like our eagles have a pretty nice place to be. I know sometimes the smoke from fires goes in the direction of the islands. Hope that convinces them to stay where they are safe.

It looks like the fire will soon reach the Mt. Wilson peak where the majority of communication towers are located... they can't stop it from happening....that will be interesting to see whats left working in LA when they are gone... but its always the animals that get punished for human stupidity... :'(

Hi Deb, The first thing I saw today was the adorable doggie with curlers. Is there anyway I can email that picture to my Grandaughter, age 8, who has her first curlers . They look just like that. She came home the 2nd day of school and demanded them (and then changed the demand to "Asking nicely.") Who can resist those big blue eyes? My daughter went right out and got them.

This child loves all animals, especially dogs. She has three rescued cats and watches what ever her Nana is watching. I hope we have a naturalist in the making.

Thanks, Flybymar

Zoo Atlanta Panda Cub Updates

Monday, August 31

For those that did not know, yesterday was Xi Lan’s first birthday. For the special occasion he was provided with a multilayer colorful ice cake (with sweet potato frozen inside) and papier-mâché balloons. We gave him about 10 minutes alone with his treats before we let Lun Lun in and he used his time wisely. He climbed on the cake and tried to eat parts of it and really examined it from every angle. Then he approached his balloons with caution from the climbing structure. But, once he reached them, he had no fear and inspected each one carefully. He then decided he would take a short nap. But, as soon as Lun Lun was let in, he decided to go back after his goodies. Then, in an effort to protect his cake from Lun Lun, he carried each layer of his cake one piece at a time up the climbing structure, chewed on it for a bit, dropped it, and went back for the next layer. After all the adventures, he slept for the rest of the day!
