Good morning everyone. I heard this morning that it affects the radio and tv communications of course and even air traffic too. I would like to share this wonderful documentary with you all. I saw "Herb and Dorothy" yesterday at the Playhouse. They (the Vogels) started collecting art in the early 60's. He is a mail clerk and she is a librarian. They lived on Dorothy's paycheck and bought arts with Herb's salary - they could afford only ones by artists who are not known then. They built relationships with many artists, talking with them and visiting their studios, in one summer they took care of Cristo's cat. After a few decades they became famous as collectors of the contemporary art; one artist described them as "art in making" They been featured in shows such as the 60 Minutes, etc, were written in the newspapers and magazines so many of you may know them. Their one bedroom apartment had no space even for a toothpick. A few years ago (?) they donated more than 2000 items to the National Gallery in DC and to other museums in the US. They said that they didn't collect them to sell and want all of us to enjoy them. I thought it was also a love story. Hope you have a chance to see it. |

I was out an hour ago and spotted this little birdy clinging to one of my trees. I am not sure if this may be a recently fledged or an adult bluebird since he/she wasnt completely blue above the reddish breast![]() Normally these are rather scarce here but they were supposedly making a comeback just west of me in the next county. I would love to see more of them in the future I hope they like the neighborhood here

![]() This Churchill polar bear is heading straight for the 25 year old son of a close friend who was out walking by himself on the tundra. Like any tourist, he had seen the signs warning people NOT to go past this point but, well, you know, he ignored them because he hadn't seen any bears anywhere. Just as he decides to turn around and go back to town this bear gets up from behind a hill of rocks and starts sauntering his way It actually walked along right beside him for some distance before turning around again. I really believe his guardian angel was taking care of him because this younger bear could have easily started 'playing' with him and even when the bears are not hungry, they will kill any 'prey' and stash it away for later. Fortunately, there is lots of food for them right now because there are whale and seal carcasses on the beach. These younger bears can be a real problem because at 2 to 2 1/2 years of age their Mom's stop feeding them and like our eagle juvies they are on their own to scavenge and learn to hunt. |

Wow! From cute , cuddly Panda birthday party to a wild polar bear. Love the contrast. Great stuff today. I hardly know where to look first. It is a good distraction from thinking too much about the terrible fires. George, Thanks for the picture of the Bluebird. Another of my very favorites. We have a bluebird nesting box program here in the Santa Clara Valley and it is quite successful. We get to see them pretty much year round. Where are you?? Your bird is deeper blue than ours or maybe it is just the light or camera. Flybymar San Jose, Calif. |

Thought i would share some shots of mums. This is a Panee <sp?> mum which has larger petals than the typical fall ones we see ![]() typical mums ![]() ![]() These were shot before i sauntered into the nearby petsmart store with my camera. I approached a fish tank and attempted to shoot one of the more unusal fishes and a teen twerp clerk came to me and says "photgraphy of any of the animals is not permitted". I snapped and said to her, "thats funny, there was no sign on the door saying such unlike what other retailers have such as the supermarket next door". She then gets into a snit and says, "well I am telling you now". So i snap a few more shots and she tells me to leave and demands that i delete the images. I tell her to go to hell and get her hands off of me unless she wants to be thrown clear across the store. I then leave and promptly spit on the glass doorway as i say, "no wonder WWF AND PETA say not to patronize you" ![]() I do not mind being told not to photograph but I do mind when it is not stated until after i am inside. Had they have been upfront and stated this such as with the sign on the door of my nearby supermarket, i never would have walked inside. |

Harpo so glad you are "back" here with us missed you heaps. I love the juvie picture. Happy Panda Birthday! Flybymar look at you with your 12 posts.....did that copy past work for your granddaughter? I use a PC os an useless to you. Jann is our resident expert around here but I'm sure others can help you too. Blue birds nothing but blue birds do I see? Song? I only remember parts of it. Cat so very glad you had a good time and kept a fish to eat. Two firemen were killed in the fires today I don't know the details yet.Mount Wilson will not effect the TV service for cable and satellite people. Cell service yes depending on which service/tower/etc you are with. But that is a majoy communication site. They said that would happen last night.....I guess it's still a probability. Got to study really hard this week. An 85% and 52% does not equal a 70% which I need to continue this class. Everyone complained about the last test and got low scores. I was not able to study cause I didn't have the material for my computer. Just went off memory and that's not great without studying.
