Oh wow Vickie that is too close for comfort. That foschek stuff is heavy, well so is the water for that matter. Penny didn't you say the fire is close to your place in Pasadena? Have you heard any more about that? Mt Wilson has huge observatories and celebrated the 100 anniversary just recently.....I forgot about that. And I didn't know you could stay overnight up there and look through the telescopes. I'd like to do that. Geeeeee???? |

Sandie, the polar bears spend most of the year on dry land until Hudson's Bay freezes over and then they can get out on the ice to hunt seals. That bear walked two feet away from him for quite a distance Luckily J was NOT making eye contact with it and did not 'run'. The bears can lope very fast and he never would have been able to out run it anyway...besides that what 'prey' does and he didn't want to be the next meal. I think the story would have been entirely different if that had been an adult bear. ![]() Nuisance polar bears who will not leave town are generally lured into Polar Bear jail where they spend many months unfed until the ice is thick enough for them to walk on and then they are let go. ![]() Polar Bear Gets Out Of Jail Free (1:41) Welcome To Bear Jail (3:57) |

Polar Bear Jail????
Awwwhhhh!!! Poor thing. Guess your friend should not have wandered in to bear territory tho. But I think you are right about an adult bear. DD and I still laugh and cry at that bear and cougar video. I watch it every day or so. |

I'm sure it is okay right now. If they haven't evacuated The Jet Propulsion Laboratory I'm not going to worry. We are right in Old Town Pasadena. I am more concerned for Mina and her daughter who last we heard were only 2 blocks from the mandatory fire evacuation zone in Altadena for them and any others who may have to get out of harms way.

Penny I just talked to Mina. She said evacuation is about one mile away from her. Her daughter is home and she is away right now. She said so far so good and that the fire seems to be going away from them right now. Good grief. She did say she would let us know and keep us posted. WHEW is all I have to say! |

hmm i wonder if a genuine isreali army issue gas mask would be good for such emergencies as the california fires?? Years ago when a student at GWU in DC, one of my favorite haunts was Sonny's Surplus which had all sorts of military surplus items. Everythign from Strait jackets to bazooka shell cases to west german made isreali army issue gas masks. Given the bad history with the germans i thought it was rather ironic to have gas masks made in germany so i purchased two of them for $12 each.. Alas Sonny's is no more and most if not all the traditional army-navy stores have gone more upscale in order to survive. Sonny's made the one we had here look like Neiman Marcus by comparision both in terms of merchandise and pricing Then maybe it wasnt as ironic as i later aquired some ww2 german rifles with the nazi chicken and twisted cross removed and isreali defense force logos inscribed onto them. I am told that at the time of partitioning in 1948 the new isreali goverment was buying all sorts of surplus munitions including german army issue K98 mauser rifles. (talk about strange bedfellows) |

I have not looked for the Bear movie yet but it is supposed to be online. i bet you that baby bear was traumatized by the cougar and won't get in it's way anymore!! At least til it's bigger. I meant to mention I'm so sorry about Andie and her DH. A job for him with benefits would really solve some problems for them both. I'm being sooooo lazy today. I should be studying. Procrastination is my middle name. Or is it my first name??? |

OMG I just heard police arrested a DUI driver on the road. But they got a huge surprise when they put down the tire strip. It was a 9 year old that got mad at his parents and took the car. |
