Sandie, Maybe you need a birdie therapist to help him deal with separation anxiety! But he's really lovable, right?! I just drove home, north on the I2 and could see the fires all around. The extent of it is amazing. Everywhere you can see there is smoke, and in one place, the smoke has made a big white plume that looks like that of a nuclear blast. I then went to OSH to try to buy a mask, but they have been out of them for 2 days. On the way back up the hill, I could see Mount Wilson, at least so far NOT engulfed in flames. I have written an account of my personal experience so far with this fire. If anyone is interested in reading it, e-mail me and send me your e-mail address and I'll send it to you as a WORD attachment. I understand that the truck the two firefighters were in was overrun by flames, causing them to drive off the road and overturn the firetruck. So tragic. These flames move SO fast, and people are just unable to outrun them. The smoke is really bothering my animals. I'm sure their eyes and throats hurt just like ours do and they don't understand what is happening. Last night the cat and dog were both whining and the rabbit was trembling. At least at the moment it seems to be a little better. The winds are supposed to pick up this afternoon. Last night I could see flames from by bedroom window on the face of the mountain that is about a mile away. The scary thing is that wind could make those embers fly a long way, so we're not safe yet. Thanks for everyone's concern.[/SIZE] |

I just talked to Paul and he said that Calif has to use all commercial avenues before they will bring out the "big guns" that he works with to put out the fire. Plus the President has to call it a disaster area. So many hoops they have to jump thru. |

George, my DH just went through some extractions last year. Our dentist built him a partial that is wonderful ! Just come to TX and ask for Dr. Mills. Sandie, re. Bernie, they sell floor standing perches that look like tree limbs on a base that Bernie could climb on and play. Maybe get one or two of those to put where needed. Thanks Laurie |

Mina good to know you are ok for the moment. Hope it continues that way. They just said the youngest fireman that got killed yesterday was about to be a daddy. His wife is three weeks away from delivery. What a sad tragedy. Bernie is as far away as possible from the entry door as it is. But I was thinking maybe move him over to the other side of the room. I'm sure the pain Craig is feeling is making things worse than they are. He busted out his knee and his back has a bad disk that they are contemplating surgery. all streets north of Loma Alto are being evacuated in Altadena. That must be the street where Mina is. Glad Mt Wilson is still ok. |

As i spit on the door i should have started coughing and saying somthign about my bad case of tuberculosis or swine flu but then i would likely have been arrested as a bio terrorist I would agree with you to this point but the spit on the door is disgusting a child could touch it or any other person and someone still has to clean it off the door. That was totally disgusting. |

My mother's best high school friend lived in Altadena so we would spend several days at her place 4 or 5 times a year and hike all over the Angeles Nat. Forest. It was thick with trees and shrubs 60 years ago...I can imagine the growth since then. It was a lovely place to be on a spring or summer day...streams to follow in the spring lead to small waterfalls where one could sit, eat lunch and relax before heading back down in the afternoon. We had so many happy hours on the trails...it's hard to imagine what it must look like now...the loss of wildlife must be monumental. Chiquita |

There seems to be three people that did not evacuate and they have to rescue them. I understand the deep driving desire to stay but it's so dangerous for both the homeowner and the firemen. I abhore fire. |

Sandie are those the same 3 who tried to ride it out in their hot tub and now they all have various degrees of burns from the fire? ![]() Not to mention the firefighters they endangered who went back in to rescue them

No, Penny, those who were in the hot tub are in the hospital. The group who are refusing to leave now are 4 or five folks who claim they have a system set up to save their house. The CLAIM that they are not trapped and can get out. Obviously, this kind of thinking just causes extra problems for the firefighters, who already have enough to worry about. |

This just came in from sbcobirding' Santa Barbara '"Sighted an adult bald eagle at Government Point just below Point Conception north of Santa Barbara on Saturday 8/29 . The eagle had a blue wing tag that was unidentifiable for any numbers. The eagle came from the mainland and flew out to sea until it was chased by a western gull . It then flew down the coast and out of sight . It is assumed it is an island bird but were curious if sightings on the mainland are commonplace. Photo can be seen at www.erinfeinblatt.wordpress.com" Maybe one of our juveniles |
