Ah the Adventure Aquarium in Camden? I have always wanted to go over to see it. However, the last time i was over there, i wanted to go down the river a short walk and tour the USS New Jersey. The aquarium is a nice one but ironicly the stadium almost next to it is the minor league Camden River Sharks' "Campbel Field" named for the soup company of course which is based not too far from the building with "Little Nipper" listening for "his master's voice".

Next time yer down this way, lemme know and i can meet you :)^ :clk:

That was hysterical - I think my favorite part was halfway through the ordeal they were both facing the camera with that stick and K81 just had to have the last beak on it and let K82 know it!! rofl

Topa, love the graphic with the weather report!

Our zoo’s elephant had a baby Wednesday. The mother, Rosie, was born here 16 years ago. The baby is a female. She weighed 300 pounds at birth and stands 3 feet tall! No photo of the baby yet.

Thanks for sharing this news, catM. I knew the birth was due any time but hadn't heard that Rosie had her baby. I remember when she was born!

catM, do you know whatever became of the circus elephants that were confiscated and taken to our zoo several years ago?

<::: Bald Eagle Release on Labor Day

The Wildlife Center of Virginia, will release a Bald Eagle on Monday, September 7 at 11:00 a.m. at Westover Plantation, on the James River in Charles City County. Participating in the release will be Ed Clark, President and Co-Founder of the Wildlife Center.

This release is open to the public. Individuals interested in attending are asked to RSVP by email to wildlife@wildlifecenter.org or by calling 540.942.9453.

This juvenile Bald Eagle – hatched earlier this year – was first spotted in early July on the ground near Doughtery, Accomack County, on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The young eagle could not fly; it was being fed by an adult eagle, but after several days the adult was gone. The young eagle was rescued and stabilized by wildlife rehabilitator Kathy Cummings, with assistance from the Eastern Shore Animal Hospital.

On July 16, the eagle was taken to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, with transport provided by volunteers Barbara Monaghan and Mike Fowler. Upon admission, the eagle received a complete examination. The Center’s veterinary team, led by Dr. Elizabeth Daut, found old fractures in the bird’s left metacarpal bones – fractures likely sustained in the nest that had started to heal. 162_6287

The Wildlife Center gave this eagle a “second chance” – providing medical treatment, food, shelter, and the support and time it needed to heal. The Center’s rehabilitation staff has been exercising the bird in the Center’s largest outdoor flight pen to build up its stamina, and the eagle has demonstrated that it is ready for return to the wild.

The eagle will be released at Westover, across the James River from a National Wildlife Refuge. The 4,200-acre refuge was created in 1991 and hosts one of the largest eagle roosts on the East Coast.

The eagle to be released on Monday is one of the 32 Bald Eagles admitted to the Wildlife Center thus far in 2009. The all-time record for eagle admissions was set in 2007, when the Center admitted a total of 36 Bald Eagles.
