Well. in keeping with Topa's posts regarding 'Pledging to be Veg'....we do not eat red meat at all and DH doesn't even eat poultry....I must confess that I do love chicken and turkey though and we do eat fish If that calf was used for food there may be someone out there who will want to claim the reward and rat on the killer/s especially if it was used for a BBQ

I too cannot say what I think about someone who would kill a calf. A terrible loss and for no sane reason Anne, we use both a tube feeder and a sock feeder for the gold finches. They seem to like both. We have tons of them, both male and female. They are such beautiful birds. (Ours are the lesser gold finches, but very much like the regular ones in habits and appearance.) |

OK Jann I give up where are Deb and Es? I was under the impression he would be working on a New laptop all weekend. Guess that was an alibi. |

Lala...I agree that the face of Avalon has changed...businesses are sold and with it a change in salespeople and attitude toward the customer and now this year I noticed they have closed... Information from the Islander says that "a calf that size yields fewer meals than one could enjoy eating with a neighbor and friends". On a happier note, I stepped outside this morning to get the paper and there was rustling leaves in the ivy....I kept my eye on the spot and all of a sudden about 15-20 little frogs began leaping around. My neighbor said they have suddenly appeared around his front door and had 4 in his house yesterday. I had one in our house yesterday, as well, and now I notice I have a large frog just outside the diningroom door. Hope they stay around for awhile. Chiquita |

I love frogs! They are so cute We had a frog last year on the wall outside the front door that we think may have been in one of the pots we bought at the garden center as we have never had them around here before. It was a pretty little thing Have not seen one since, either

Karen, so happy for your new back yard...33 years is a long time to go without a lawn.... now don't walk all over it for awhile and keep it nice and wet... we had some new sod this year in a few places and in the shade it is thinning out... but doing great in the sun.. we stayed off of it for a couple of weeks....can't wait to see Jim's handywork... that is hard work when it is this hot... |

Karen...I once found a frog under my bed...what a sight...I don't know how long it had been there but it had collected all the dust bunnies...when I finally caught it I felt so sorry for it having to haul around all that dust that I put it in some water and cleaned it up before I let it go...poor frog!!! That goldfinch is so brilliant...we don't have anything that brilliant around here. Sometimes we see an oriole but haven't seen one of them for several years. Chiquita |

Yeah Jim said to stay off it about a wk. and he installed a sprinkler system before doing anything so it will be easy to water it. I did step on it for a minute tho and it feels so nice on the bare feet! Now am praying the gophers don't do a number on it! And it was a little cooler here today with a bit of a breeze but it still got up to almost 90. But last night was a lot cooler so hoping it will be tonight, also.
