We had a wonderful, much needed rain this afternoon. The hummers, lesser goldfinch and the "grey flock" (pigmy nuthatch, mountain chickadee and ruby crowned kinglet) were not deterred by the rain from feeding. The grey flock always travel together - maybe safety in numbers for very small birds? |

The rain we are getting now seems to be coming in off the Atlantic! It pours and then stops. Then pours some more. I got my small Wing Blings today. They were a little wet yet, and had stuck to the white letter which they were enclosed in. I have some black Magic Marker, and will go over where it s white. I will attach them to my flapping Eagle Cap over the weekend when I'm off. |

Just got home. Ran errands over in the neighboring town and found my favorite "resale store" that I thought had closed - had moved two blocks away! And they have about three or four times bigger store. I love looking around these kind of stores. I found a nice little clean microwave stand in white with two shelves below for ten bucks. Kind of like the ones you have to assemble from WallyWorld... but someone did it for me! And the nice thing I liked is that it is on rubber "creeper wheels" so I can move it whereever I want it.Did you know that you can't find a nice heavy duty "Ice Scooper". I have been looking all over. When we help out at the jam sessions, our friends bring bags of ice for the sodas. They have been using a styrofoam cup to scoop the ice. The ice kinda chews up the cup). I planned to run down and buy one. Nope! Not to be found. Well, dark clouds are moving in. Hopefully, more rain tonight. According to the forecast, weather will be here for the next week.Gonna fix dinner. Gotta :soar: |

Xi Lan Update ![]() Images - Zoo Atlanta Wednesday, September 9 Usually everyone has a favorite spot where they like to relax. For some it’s a comfy chair or sofa in the living room, while for others it is a spot on the beach or maybe a shady spot in the grass under a large tree. Pandas aren't any different when it comes to this. Lun Lun and Mei Lan like to curl up high in the climbing structures, while Yang Yang is pretty much comfortable anywhere. Xi Lan has chosen his spots as well. In the dayrooms, like his mom and sister, he likes to snooze high in the climbing structures, but on exhibit he has taken to a new spot. In his many explorations of the outside habitat, Xi Lan has recently discovered the cave in the back of the exhibit. It is darker in there and also much cooler on these warm summer mornings. It’s a perfect spot for a young panda to catch some z’s. This is not uncommon, as all of our pandas here at Zoo Atlanta have chosen the cave as their preferred spot at one time or another. This means, much to the chagrin of some panda viewers, that Xi Lan is sometimes partially out of sight during the day. But never fear, he doesn't spend too long in the cave. With an increase in age comes an increase in play time, with or without mom. This can last for quite some time, and usually does. After all that exertion, can you blame him for just wanting to curl up and relax in his new favorite spot? Kenn Harwood Lead Keeper of Carnivores |
