We All Know What Happened on Sept. 11 - or Do We?

The Passionate Eye Investigates Persisting Theories

9/11 Conspiracy Files: The Third Tower delves into one of the mysteries surrounding Sept. 11—a third tower at the World Trade Centre, which along with the Twin Towers, collapsed on that fateful day. But a plane never hit this skyscraper. This 47-story tower fell seven hours after the others and has become the subject of heated speculation and conspiracy theories, largely fuelled by the Internet. Sept. 11 was the first global event in the age of the worldwide web and it’s being used as a platform for a wide range of conspiracy theories—more than 50 at the last count—that allege the U.S. government was somehow involved in the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon.

Conspiracy theorists like Dylan Avery believe the Third Tower was brought down by a series of controlled explosions. Avery is the 24-year-old documentary maker behind the Internet phenomenon Loose Change, which has been viewed tens of millions of times online. He and his film pull no punches, claiming a government conspiracy was behind the events of Sept. 11 and the ensuing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The mysterious collapse of the third tower is central to his argument. It’s an accusation the U.S. Government categorically denies.

After seven years, on Aug. 21, 2008, the official report on the World Trade Centre collapse of Building 7 (the Third Tower) was released. U.S. Federal investigators concluded that fire weakened floor beams and a critical support column leading to the collapse of the third tower. However, that would make the third tower the first and only skyscraper in the world to collapse solely due to fire. 9/11 Conspiracy Files: The Third Tower explores the many questions that continue to fuel conspiracy theorists.

9/11 Conspiracy Files: The Third Tower is directed by Mike Rudin, and produced for the BBC, part of a series investigating and debunking widely held conspiracy theories, while also exploring the inconsistencies and holes in the official accounts.

We watched this on Monday evening and it will be repeated tonight at 10 pm ET/PT on CBC Newsworld. It was a definite eye opener. The promo video for this is not available at the present time

Zozobra ("Old Man Gloom") is the name of a giant marionette effigy which is built and burned every autumn during Fiestas de Santa Fe in Santa Fe, NM, usually during the second week of September. As his name suggests, he embodies gloom; by burning him, people destroy the worries and troubles of the previous year in the flames. Anyone with gloom that they need to get rid of can come by the offices of the local newspaper in the weeks leading up to the burn to drop off slips of paper with personal gloom written on them. Many people put legal papers in the gloom box as well. At the festival the papers from the gloom box are placed at Zozobra's feet to be burned alongside him.

Zozobra burned last night despite a little rain. It is a wonderful sight. I have gone in person several times. Now I content myself with watching it on TV.

I am wondering about the thoughts and feelings of all the men and women who are working on the new memorial for 911 today as they work. I think I would be working with renewed strength and determination if I was working there. All the graphics have been outstanding this morning in honor of those that were lost. We need to also remember today all those that are deployed as they are there for those we lost on 9/11. They are fighting and sacrificing now for those that were sacrificed on that day and so that hopefully what happened that day will never happen again in America, our beautiful and strong country. Say a prayer for them, also, today. No matter what our country has gone thru or will go thru, it is still the best country in the world to me. (No offense to all you that live in other countries.)

I really need to get a flag that I can fly! We do have a flag but its one that Jim's mom recieved when his dad passed away as he was a veteran. She gave it to Jim since he is the oldest. It is so huge that we really don't have room to fly it. It is displayed folded in my house, tho.

An oldie but goodie-

You can retire to Phoenix , Arizona where........

1. You are willing to park 3 blocks away because you found shade.
2.. You've experienced condensation on your butt from the hot water in the toilet bowl.
3. You can drive for 4 hours in one direction and never leave town.
4. You have over 100 recipes for Mexican food.
5. You know that "dry heat" is comparable to what hits you in the face when you open your oven door.
6. The 4 seasons are: tolerable, hot-90, really hot-100, and ARE YOU KIDDING (++115) ME??!!

You can retire to California where...
1. You make over $250,000 and you still can't afford to buy a house, coast to coast moves are an exception.
2. The fastest part of your commute is going down your driveway.
3. You know how to eat an artichoke.
4. You drive your rented Mercedes to your neighborhood block party.
5. When someone asks you how far something is, you tell them how long it will take to get there rather than how many miles away it is.
6. The 4 seasons are: Fire-due to global cooling and no EL Nino in the pacific, Flood, Mud, and Drought-due to global cooling.

You can retire to New York City where...
1. You say "the city" and expect everyone to know you mean Manhattan .....
2. You can get into a four-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park, but can't find Wisconsin on a map.
3. You think Central Park is "nature."
4. You believe that being able to swear at people in their own language makes you multi-lingual.
5. You've worn out a car horn. ( Ed note: if you have a car)

You can retire to Minnesota, Montana, North & South Dakota, Alaska, Idaho, Maine where...
1. You only have four spices: salt, pepper, ketchup, and Tabasco
2. Halloween costumes fit over parkas..
3. You have more than one recipe for moose.
4. Sexy lingerie is anything flannel with less than eight buttons.
5. The four seasons are: winter, still winter, almost winter, and construction.

You can retire to the Deep South/Texas where...
1. You can rent a movie and buy bait in the same store.
2. "Y'all" is singular and "all y'all" is plural.
3. "He needed killin'" is a valid defense.
4. Everyone has 2 first names: Billy Bob, Jimmy Bob, Mary Sue, Betty Jean, Mary Beth, etc.
5. Everything is either "in yonder," "over yonder" or "out yonder.." It's important to know the difference, too.

You can retire to Colorado where.....
1. You carry your $3,000 mountain bike atop your $500 car .
2. You tell your husband to pick up Granola on his way home and so he stops at the day care center.
3. A pass does not involve a football or dating.
4. The top of your head is bald, but you still have a pony tail. à True in California-too…..
5. The four seasons are: winter, still winter, almost winter, and summer construction.

You can retire to the Midwest where...
1. You've never met any celebrities, but the mayor knows your name.
2. Your idea of a traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a tractor.
3. You have had to switch from "heat" to "A/C" on the same day.
4. You end sentences with a preposition: "Where's my coat at? "
5. When asked how your trip was to any exotic place, you say, "It was different!"

AND You can retire to Florida where..
1. You eat dinner at 2-3:15 in the afternoon.
2. All purchases include a coupon of some kind -- even houses and cars.
3. Everyone can recommend an excellent dermatologist.
4. Road construction never ends anywhere in the state.
5. Cars in front of you often appear to be driven by headless people. :P

Last year in May I was taking a little stroll through the Avalon Cemetery...it was a few days before Memorial Day and the Boy Scouts had placed the new flags on all the graves of the fallen military personnel. The old flags from the year before had been removed from the grave sites and put in the trash barrel. That just didn't seem right to me so I took them home and now use them around a small part of my front yard on these appropriate days...for me, it's nice to know they have a little history behind them.

What an interesting history to Zozobra, CatM. I love to learn about things like this. Such a festive evening with with a wonderful long history. I'm sure it is fun to be a part of it.

Karen I think that's a lot of what ES feels each day that he is allowed to work on Tower 1 - it would be a special project just for the design alone but for what it represents - it's even more. He appreciates every day that he gets to be a tiny part of the whole. :)^
