My nephew in NY works for ABC as a news courier. On that terrible day he went with a photographer to capture what was left of the WTC. He kept telling the photographer not to get any closer but to no avail. This young man perished as the towers collapsed, my nephew was lucky and survived. He helped many people in the area and pulled many to safety. He has never forgotten 9-11 and never will.

There were many things that struck me that day - I was working at West Point on the Hudson River (the plane that left Boston flew along the east bank to NYC) and thought for sure the nuclear reactor just down river from us was the next target. I called my GF at the time and told her that if anything happened I would drive northwest against the jet stream and meet her at her family's place in Michigan! I kept an emergency pack of water, food, blanket, change of clothes, cat food and carriers in my car for a long time after that! But I think the one thing that struck me at the time that I DIDN'T expect was how strangely quiet the skies were in the days after when all planes were grounded. It was the first time I realized that the sounds of planes were part always in my day. |

I would have loved to see the $350 leica Body. I suspect it was a wartime or early post war IIIc or IIIf like i have. If i were there i likely would have bought it. The one camera i would never really buy would be a polaroid. Unless its a very very obscure one they are a dime a dozen used woth not much more than 10-$20 Alot of the older nikon lenses will mount on our newer nikons but we dont get all of the bells and whistles that the new lenses give us. Such as auto exposure. I have a stashed site someplace which says what vintage nikon lenses will work and do what with the newer nikon bodys. one can google "nikon lens body compatability chart" and they can find it i think. |

Yeah - that too! And didn't it feel like you were in a war zone - another thing - I was never so near REAL operations or had them in my daily routine! |
