I'm fairly confident this is just a cold, Dh thinks it's my allergies. I'm hoping he's right. :X:

I would bet on the allergies. While I am south of you, the gagweed, er ragweed here has started up along with the other fall weeds. I have felt the throat tickle and of course the fun of plugged sinuses here already. I had hoped to go a few more weeks without the fall allergy season starting.

If it is a cold, be carefull! Today employers are telling their walking wounded to stay home and not come in due to the fear of the new flu. Here one college has 25 cases with several of their students "in isolation" and another has almost as many and have sent some students home from on campus housing.

I do wonder, what age groups should get the H1N1 shot since they say it seems to affect younger folks more than we old codgers. I may have to make a call to my dr hackenbush to see whether being a diabetic also makes me need that shot. I always get the regular flu shot and have had several of the pneumococcal pneumonia shots in the past. I think they originally were to last for 10 years but I think that may have changed. Lucky for me, I had that one again last year too

Darn Peetie I missed you again!!!

Laurie I felt the same exact way. Sore throat first then on and on and on. Now I guess it's mostly chest stuff. I don't get too many allergy problems. I felt a lot better yesterday. Drink some hot tea with honey too. That really helped me when I was hacking my brains out!

George I heard we only need one flu shot. Nothing about a special H1N1 flu shot. They were saying before that we needed two shots before and worried about enough shots. But people are responding better than expected. So we should have enough. I heard WalMart has the "venom" available now. And should be covered by Medicare. I get my flu shot EVERY year. I have to wait until I'm feeling better this year tho.

No we will need 2 shots. One for the normal "Flu" like we get each year and then 1 for the H1N1 "Swine" flu. The original thought was that we would require 2 for the H1N1 but apparantly those who have been testing it have gotten the proper immunity from just one injection.

The HHS secretary said this am on one of the national programs ,Meet the Press, face the Nation or the other, that the swine flu vaccine will be available the first week of october

Sandie, I will have to find that book. Yours is estra special. <3 :)^

They thought the doseages for H1N1 testing would have to be increased to two. Afterwards, they just announced you would only need one shot - of H1N1. You still need the regular flu shot.

George - the pharmacist told me that I only have to take two pneumonia shots in my lifetime - probably. One at age 60 and another in ten years. (I plan to prove him wrong.) :<::

well we drove east along the "highway" next to the ocean on the barrier island at Jones Beach - stopped at Robert Moses Park and walked along the board walk (which actually goes thru the marshes not along the beach) on our way to the light house. I was a bit nervous about the steps so didn't go up this time but ES did.

interesting fact - originally the lighthouse stood on the west end of Fire Island but today now stand 5 miles from the western end ---- yes the sand has moved and redeposited that far and the island has "grown" 5 miles going westward! how cool is that!

we finished up and headed back to the car and decided to head back to the mainland and go further east - we ended up visiting the William Floyd Estate - didn't have a clue who the guy was except there's a parkway named after him - wellllllll - the estate house was awesome - 25 rooms and family owned until the 1970's - family gave the house and entire contents to the Park Service AND the tour and grounds visits are FREEEEEE! so we toured the house which was awesome and guess who William Floyd was -

he was a signer of the Declaration of Independence!

photos later (when we get them sorted out!)

saw the MB osprey hanging out but not at the nests

saw 2 osprey along the barrier highway - got photos of one....

saw some redtails but no photos today......

no eagles :( :P

We had a wonderful day today at Hawk Hill (Greater Toronto Hawk Watch) - we had great numbers of raptors. The weather conditions were much particularly good today - the wind was strong blowing south and southwest, and the barometer was rising. Since their migration path is westward along the north shore of Lake Ontario they like to move then the wind is blowing in that direction.

We saw the first large numbers of broad-winged hawks go though - I lost count of how many, but I'm sure we had a couple of hundred at least - they were going by for a period in kettles of 20, 30, 40 at a time. We probably had close to 150 sharp-shinned hawks, and a decent number of kestrels. We also had a couple of merlins and peregrines (in fact one of the peregrines was getting into it with one of the sharp-shinned). There were several osprey, and smattering of other species. The only thing we didn't seem to get any of today were eagles, although we did have one subadult bald yesterday.

Harpo, you and ES have such great week-end adventures.... look forward to pictures of the estate... I was resting up today after running around with the girls yesterday .. Sasha's first soccer game (her team won although one of the points was from one of the other's teams hapless players.. what do you expect from a team caller the Bubble Gummers???..yes, pink uniforms) Then to the store for my mom at the most horrible time to shop.. Sat. in the middle of the day.. then I took them to a Fairy Birthday Party... dressed as fairies of course... 25 fairies, dancing in the wilderness... wings a flapping... quite a sight.... then they stayed with me all night... so I hit the IP today at 2:00 and am enjoying tennis and football.... :)^

Ken told me last year that he got a shot for Shingles too along with his Pneumonia, and Flu Shot's. So I guess I'll be feeling like a pin cushion this year. I didn't take any shots last year at all. I HATE NEEDLES! Normally two people hold me, and another gives the shot, while someone else distracts me. I had very bad experiences as a child, which make me a PIA to give a shot too. When I have Dental Work done I'm ok, and drawing blood. I stopped taking my Allergy Shots for this reason too.

Talking of Dental work I will be having a LOT done this Winter. All my uppers crowned. Since I have a HUGE Torus Palatinus (bony prominence in the roof of my mouth) I am not a candidate for dentures. So I have to get an Assistant to work on me for several visit's. We're doing 4 teeth at a time, but I will have drop dead gorgeous teeth when finished.

We did a Roundhouse case on his mother years ago, and are now doing it over again. She is 91 y/o, and is very vain. Does not want dentures, and wants Marie Osmond white teeth. Talk about looking phony!

I took walk around hill today ...Scout followed me... very unusual for him to do that.. we found tons of feathers...and when I got back to the house and came into my bedroom, the female peahen was preening and resting in front of my sliding glass doors in the bedroom... she didn't even jump up when I came in...she was enjoying looking at herself I guess... the other two boys were in the bedroom too but knew when they saw me they better run... she let me take a picture of her... my fault, I can't leave the doors open.. they think they are no different than the cats... and they know where the cat food is in the kitchen... rofl
