Sandie - Went to the doctor yesterday, it's a disk condition that happens every now and then, ouchy. It will ease up eventually but will get some PT next week.

Penny - I am taking Advil which helps and will remember your advice about standing with one leg on a stool.

Hello all, have been busy tending to "medical issues" but had to pass along this news about "Spot" the Estonian Lesser spotted eagle

Apparantly Spot was found by a good hearted estonian not too far from the nest where he hatched. He appeared to have some sort of injury perhaps to his wing. This person carefully took spot home with him and called the appropriate authorites who have now gotten him to a proper facility for treatment

From the Luduskalender.ee site's URMASS (thier dr Sharpe i think)

Spot is now in Nigula Animal Shelter. There is a juvenile LSE from last year also, who needs probably one more winter to be kept there.
By data of people from Shelter, Spot is quite thin (1,54kg) and would be fed and examined by vet. If there will be news, I let know in forum

how would any of us like to have a house guest like Spot:

Had to leave early from treatment today. A minor infiltration. Ice packs helped, but it is wearing off and I think I am going to rest for a while.

George, not many people would even know how to capture an injured eagle.. gloves would be in order and a cage?? I guess you could cover the bird with something and keep him calm... glad it worked out for 'Spot'... ("See Spot run.. run Spot run... See Spot fly.. fly Spot fly.....") Loved my Dick and Jane ....

The other images that i did not harvest off the site posted by a member on the link showed "Spot" in a wooden crate. I gathered from the site, that Estonian Law permits this instead of staying with the eagle waiting for the appropriate authority to arrive. I suppose given the coldness of the souther baltic region this may be both more benneficial to the eagle as well as the rescuer. I am gonna try and dig up the name of the shelter to which he was taken. They also take care of other birds such as the Black Stork

EDITED: Spot is in the care of the Nigula Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Estonia, I tried to pull up some worthy links but most of what i found wasnt as informative as i would have hoped but maybe better if i could read Estonian.

Apprantly Nigula is a region in SW Estonia along their border with Latvia and is a rich wetlands area full of bogs where pete is harvested (I think)

From wikipedia:
Nigula Nature Reserve was established in 1957. New protection rules, that added the surrounding forests and farmlands to the nature reserve were fixed in 1979. In 1989 Nigula Nature Reserve got its first international designation as Important Bird Area The nature reserve has its independent administrative organisation since 1991 when Nigula Nature Reserve Administration was established. The nature reserve was designated as a Ramsar convention area in 1997.

I just had my windshield replaced.. right here in my driveway... It cracked this past spring but it was no big deal.. about an inch or two and behind my mirror, so I never even saw it... but with the heat, the crack finally went horizontal in both directions across the whole windshield... so nice to not have to sit in a garage somewhere.. I just went online and gave my repairman an 'E' for Excellent... :)^
