Flybymar I'm so proud of you for sticking it out.  :ok:  Jann didn't tell you but the clickable smilies to the left of the posting screen  :)^  all you have to do is click on it and it will insert itself where ever your cursor is blinking.

OK! I am trying this. How does the computer know which quote I am refering to. I clicked on one sentence and then hit quote. This is a test. Now for the smile.

It won't do the smile. I have a Mac, remember. It also won't let me change font or color. I went thru the whole drill with my instructor and no dice. The young people who teach are different every lesson so maybe I will try again. Thanks for the encouragement.

flybymar, you're doing terrific! This is part 1 of learning how to quote posts, and you passed with flying colors!

1) You asked how it knows which post to quote. Each post has a quote button in the upper right-hand corner. So you click on the quote button of the post you want to respond to.

2) To quote just a portion of a post....after you click on the QUOTE button, scroll down a little to see the box with the quoted material in it. Highlight and erase everything that you don't want to appear.....before and/or after the portion that you're answering. As you can see, I just quoted a portion of your post.

3) As for the SMILIES, when you click on them, a code should appear in the window where you type. The actual SMILIE won't appear until your post is posted. That threw me at first too.

Hope this helps. Don't worry about asking questions here. We're always happy to help.

Marti, please tell me about the "hummer festival?" Thank you.

The Providence Journal has an article in it- "Tourists flock to behold hummingbirds by the hundreds" that might be of interest to you. (projo dot you know what) :D

Carole....OMG If you ever have the opportunity to smell it you will never forget it. If you have been to hawaii you never forget the smell as you get off the plane. This is just like that. I took three of the blooms off and brought them inside. You can smell them three feet away.
Amazing aroma!!

Jann I didn't know we could quote something from previous days. It's just done the same way? I thought I tried that a while ago and it didn't work. HMMMM!!!

We can......but it's a little more complicated. The forum is not set up to do it, but with COPY & PASTE, we can get around that.

STEP 1 - Do the quote as usual in the date of the original post but do NOT post it. Instead, hit the PREVIEW button. That will put all of the text into one window.

STEP 2 - Highlight all of the text in the typing window. An easy way to do that is to click inside the window and go to EDIT in your menu bar and down to SELECT ALL. You can also do this by holding down the CTRL key and pressing the "A" key once.

STEP 3 - Copy the text by going to EDIT in the menu bar and down to COPY. You can also hold down the CTRL button and press "C" once to copy.

STEP 4 - Go to the current day in Chat and open a text window as usual. Click inside the text window and PASTE it by going to EDIT in the menu bar and down to PASTE. You can also hold down the CTRL button and press "V" once to paste. Then hit REPLY as normal.

Adding to Jann's post a bit above, don't forget to use the "preview post" first. That way you can edit anything you may want to before your post actually appears on the forum. This is how you can fix your typos, etc before hand. It's saved me many embarrassing moments. :blsh:

Jill that was hysterical.

In the near future I will need people in Santa Barbara to participate in a mock jury. You'll be paid and fed. If you'd like to be considered please email me with your phone number and I'll call and see if you qualify. If you don't it would be perfectly fine to refer someone that does. These are always fun.

Jann ????? Wow that's a lot to quote from a prev day. I think I'll just refer back to the day and page.

I watched that Bear movie we had not long ago. I love watching that over and over.

Oh my goodness this is really good. I got this from a TV program cooking show.
Freeze three bananas cut them and put them in a blender with about 1/2 cup of milk and blend....it makes really good ice cream or think drink. I put a little caramel sauce in it made it better.
Yummy
