Hello everyone, No bad news to report this week! We’ve been checking on the last 3 remaining juveniles, which are K91, K87 and K97, but we have not been able to locate the latter and given that she has a not-functioning transmitter, we can only hope she’s still on the island or well and alive somewhere else. I normally find K91 and K87 in the same area. They “like” to spend time near each other. Observing this pattern reminded me of an observation that one of you, eagle fans, made a few weeks back when she observed that the Two Harbors chicks would fly together all the time. They continue to do that now that they’re away from their territory and I hope they keep this up. They have spending a lot of time around the KBRT/burnt area, behind the Haypress reservoir. This is a designated hunting area and also the reservoir is drying out so the fish in it are probably dying out and washing out along the shore. I didn’t get close enough to them to get a picture but it’s good to know they are finding enough to eat and continue to explore the island. Like I mentioned before, I have searched for K97 and have visited the WE a couple of times this week. Here are a couple of pictures of the area. The WE nest ridge ![]() Looking for K97 on the WE ![]() Something is definitely luring the eagles (and osprey) to this area since I found K93 perched on the same spot as I did last week but this time accompanied by his mate; a sighting that was wonderful to have because it confirms the fact that they are still together, not necessarily at their usual territory but as long as they remain together and breed next year, that’s all we care about. First sighting of K93, raven perched right next to him ![]() Farther away ![]() Farther ![]() Seen from the road ![]() A32 came to join his mate ![]() Vocalizing away ![]() The ravens sharing the perch ![]() This week we have begun a rigorous training with Pimu as we are trying to get her on the glove in the next few months. We have to be very strict and most importantly consistent with her training if we want it to work; meaning no free food! She’ll get fed first, before Pii’ ich, from the same low perch every day. She’ll be getting a combination of pork, quail, venison and fish but smaller quantities and as long as she eats her off our hands. We’ll introduce new items to her cage, like leather gloves, to get her used to and to have her be unafraid of handling equipment. Hunger in the best incentive so we suspect she’ll shed a pound or two in the beginning of this process and still remain healthy. I was gone this weekend so I didn’t get to start feeding her until Monday and, like many other times when I’ve returned from a trip to find that she hasn’t behaved for Pete and therefore hasn’t eaten much, I found her very hungry when I went into her cage. She did everything she was supposed to that day though; she flew from across the cage to the feeding perch and walked towards me to eat the pork. After the pork was gone, she kept begging so I gave her the fish and stood right by her until she was finished. She was vocal the whole time. Yesterday she behaved pretty much in the same manner. Handling her like we handle Pii’ ich will certainly be a challenge but we’re determined to make a good girl out of Pimu! One more picture to say good-bye. When the clouds marry with the ocean… ![]() Steffani |

Dear Steffani, You're early today! I always hold my breath when reading your updates at this time of year. I'm SO glad there was no bad news this week! I liked seeing the eagle pair roosting on the telephone pole or whatever that thing is. No news is good news. And thank you for the update on Miss Stubborn Pimu. Hope the new training regime goes well. I find it interesting that her reactions are so different between you and Peter. Hope you have a good, eagle-watching week! /auri |

great update - glad to hear Pimu is cooperating (for the moment - talk about attitude) good luck - wonder why she's not so nice to poor Peter! LOL thanks for taking us along - glad to hear that eagles are flying still don't know how you pick them out sometimes though - a teensy speck in the far off distance! Love your closing phrase - yes indeed: "When the clouds marry with the ocean…" |

Steffani - Great update and super photos as usual. Pimu is so funny, Peter once mentioned that she doesn't like him very much so I guess her training is all up to you. Good luck!

Thanks for the update, Steffani. Loved the pictures of K93 & A32. Amazing that you saw them from so far away. Sure glad you have such an eagle eye!Good luck with your training of Pimu. You have Pimu have a special relationship to begin with....which will help a lot, I'm sure. I look forward to reading (and seeing?) how it's going each week.

Great report. Just be patient with Pimu, I know training can be frustrating. It seems like she prefers you more to Dr. Sharpe, so she is your bird to work with. Thst's a plus. Glad to hear of no bad News this time. The nerve of those Ravin's perching with our Eagles on poles! Don't they know they are taking their lives in their Talons? |

STEFFANI Thank you for such a "good news only" update this week. I'm glad you started your post with that sentence so I could breathe. I am very happy that the two TH eaglets, K-91 and K-87, are hanging out together still, just like Thunder and Lightning. I can't wait for further updates on Pimu's training. ![]() We appreciate all the hard work you do for our eagles, and look forward to your updates with great anticipation. |

STEFFANII love your photos of K93 and his Lady in Blue A32 . It is especially good to know that they are still together as they explore other areas away from their usual neighborhood. It will be very interesting to see if they choose to nestorate their old nest or somewhere else and ultimately have their first . Your description of Pimu's behavior with you is so endearing. Training will be a challenge for sure--but you have the best chance to succeed with her. You and Pimu are simpatico. When we spent our several days moored in Cat Harbor in June and again in July, we always saw K87 and K91 close together, no matter where they perched or when they took to the skies to ride the air currents so beautifully. It is so nice to know they still are learning, hunting and exploring together and you are able to locate them each week. Thank you always for your photos and UPDATES. |

Whew - I can quit holding my breath! Thanks for the opening sentence, Steff! Do you think Pimu would actually starve before cooperating with Dr. S.??? What a character. Thanks for all the good news and for having the courage to go looking for our babies every day, never knowing what you may find.... |

Thank you, Steffani! I sure love your last photo. Really pretty. Sounds like Pimu is bonded to you? In a pet bird "flock" they often start eating when the feeder walks in...at least here at my place. I have the PH cam up and some critter was crunching around the nest at this late hour. Maybe some little guy. Thanks for the great report with no bad news!

It's wonderful to know that K91 and K87 are still together. In some ways I am surprised that you don't see that more often in fledgling siblings. I swear it is you with the eagle eyes! How you are able to spot them at such distances is amazing! Loved the pictures. And sweet Pimu! She's a character, just likes to beat to her own drum I guess! I suspect with your wonderful touch she will come around sooner rather than later. Good luck. Have a great week and thanks for a wonderful report. |
