Hi everyone- Not much to report from this past week on Santa Cruz Island. Amanda and I have been staying very busy doing vehicle maintenance on our trucks. We've still been checking the GPS data daily to monitor those eagles with GPS equipment. Most of the eagles have made their move over to Santa Rosa Island, where they are feasting on a food source of deer and elk. However, A-64 has ventured back into his parents' territory in Chinese Harbor. He just blends in so well over there though that we seem to not be able to spot him. Amanda and I took the boat out a few days with the main goals of spotting A-00 and A-29. We were concerned about A-00 because the week that Peter was on Santa Cruz, we didn't see him at all. And that so rarely happens, so we headed out last week to search for him. Lucky for us, he flew to us and we were able to confirm that it was indeed A-00. He must have been on vacation the previous week. We still haven't been able to find his mate, A-16, so we will continue to head out there in hopes of getting a glimpse of her. We were also trying to get a visual of A-29, because his transmitter stopped working this week and we just wanted to see if he was still hanging out in his usual areas. Amanda headed out to Christy Beach on the west end, and saw one eagle, but wasn't able to confirm tags. When out on the boat on the opposite end of the island, at Yellowbanks, she spotted an adult bald eagle and identified the bird as A-29. So that bird sure does get around. He needs to settle down in his own territory and find a mate. A-00 back in his territory ![]() ![]() On the boat ride back to the mainland, we saw a huge group of sooty shearwaters, western gulls, brown pelicans, and common dolphins, so I thought I'd include a couple of those photos. ![]() ![]() Until next week, Stephanie and Amanda |

Thanks for the update! Vehicle maintenance may be boring to some, but it's also very necessary to keep them running smoothly! Glad you were able to confirm that A00 & A29 are both doing well on the island....and that A64 is sticking close to home....even if he is difficult to spot! Wonder why he hasn't joined the others on Santa Rosa. A29 sure is a handsome eagle! that he finds a mate soon and nests on the Channel Islands!Hope you're able to spot A16 soon! Thanks again for all you do! |

Stephanie and Amanda---lovely picture of A00 and that feeding frenzy of birds and dolphin looks like a wild and good eating time for them. Always exciting to come upon these happenings on the water.
