Karen glad to hear all is well - be sure "mom" gets that much needed rest and Allan will come when he's ready! :P It's always exciting (and a little tiring and hard on nerves) but the end result is beyond words! So lots of cruzer mojo coming to your house ......

car wash done - almost all the scouts and parents helped out and we cleared over $500! :**: the money will be divided between the scouts and troop - the boys each have a troop account and can use the $$ for camping trips, summer camp, scout gear....... of course I might be a bit wet (from 1 or 2 or maybe 3 hose fights :P )

gotta get the towels/rags washed and dried and me cleaned up - AND finally someone is coming to look at our front door so that we can get it fixed thanks to the post office employee - duh!

Karen wouldn't that have been fun for the friend from NY to have the baby come now??? What a double treat that would have been.

Just glad she is OK. Never stay in the hospital if you don't have to .....too many germies creeping around. So a bladder infection will cause labor pains? Wow never knew that. Did they at least examine her this time?

I bet you are all worn out.....you and Mommy and Daddy all need a good long nap. That's an understatement huh?

Mojo juice running high here....hope all is well soon. Allan will make an appearance when he's darn good n ready.

Well, Deb, I had a little Boy Scout encounter this morning. Since DB was an Eagle Scout I have a soft spot in my heart for them and their fund raising efforts. Set up just outside the door to the supermarket was a table surrounded by Scoutmaster and Scouts. On the table was a wide range of popcorn items...BIG $40 tins of popcorn down to the individual microwave packets...soooooo I stopped. After giving the display the once over, I looked down to the little Cub nearest me and said to him, "What's your favorite item here" and without hesitation he pointed to the BIG $40 tin!!! Then I asked him what the Scouts were going to use the money for and he said "Oh, my mother won't let me spend it"...so cute. After a little conversation with the Scoutmaster...super nice guy...I said I'd see them on the way out of the store...which I did.

So few seem to be involved with the Scouting movement now. So many of DB Scouting friends have become long time friends. Also, when my grandmother was young her family had Robert Baden-Powell to their home for dinner.

that's cool Chiquita! I met Green Bar Bill at a dinner and helped him while he was doing autographs! the kids had a good time today (as always) and what a good job they did on the $$! The Troop is broke - spending the last of the money for summer camp expenses. Whatever the boys raise during the year - we put right back out for their program.

A couple of weekends ago at Hawk Hill we also had the air show going on at the Canadian National Exhibition down on the lakeshore. High Park is fairly close to the exhibition grounds so we had jets passing over the park pretty low at times. I finally had a chance to look through some of my pictures, and some turned out pretty decent.

This one was taken at 400mm, 1/800s, at f/9, ISO 400:

That is scaled down to 800 pixels width - I'll post the full resolution version as a link because it is truly large, but it shows a lot more of the fine details:

Blue Angels 1

It came out pretty decent - there is a bit of softness to it (for example the "Blue Angels" lettering on the fuselage is just a touch blurred). I'm not sure if that might be a bit of motion blur from the subject (I was shooting at 1/800 but perhaps I could have used an even faster shutter speed), or I wasn't quite 100% steady when I was panning. The other thing was it was a pretty warm sunny and hazy day, so that could have been a factor as well.

Here is another shot which was a bit farther away, but I'm trying to decide composition-wise whether I like it better having the trees in the frame to give it some context:

I would suspect it isnt the lens given you were not shooting wide open. The BA's jets do move fast but perhaps kicking up the shutter to 1/1000+ may have helped.

These two shots are where cropping can cause we shooters a big dilemma. With the trees, the shot makes it seem the jets were flying almost at tree level whereas the shot without them makes the viewer, or at least this viewer, think they were soaring high in the sky. This is where the shooters perception is better than some remote "editor", to show an images as they want it shown.

Normally the lens is softer wide open than stopped down. I have read that the optimal sharpness is obtained when light passest through the mid range of the lens and not fully stopped down as one would suspect. Thus i surmise that fully stopped down there is some sort of trade off between sharpness and maximum depth of field.

Dang it, now i am going to have to test this hypothesis out when i get to shoot something worthwhile :D

Karen, all good thoughts going your way. I am sure Allan will make his appearance when the time is right.

Deb, super effort on the water fight...er car wash. :)^

George, I can't imagine they would stop spectators in the stands from shooting photos, but I guess they can.

Ian, loved the shots. Thanks for sharing!

Karen...So hard to predict when a baby will come. My DM had a Dr. appt. about 2PM one afternoon and I wasn't due for another three weeks. Dr. did all the appropriate check up stuff and told her not to expect me for another three weeks...I arrived less than 12 hours later. When I had DS...pretty much same thing...two more weeks to go when...bingo...barely made it to the hospital and hospital was less than a mile away...DS born 20 min. after I made it inside the hospital doors. So, sometimes not even the Drs know for sure.

I read up on Green Bar Bill, Deb...didn't know about him...what an interesting life he had.
