Hello everyone, This week we continued looking for the remaining juveniles K87 and K91. They are still spending time on the KBRT/burnt area and take occasional trips to the east end. I have gotten signals from K91 almost every day and this afternoon I got a visual on K87. I made a short video of him flying along the bottom of the Seal Rocks (SR) canyon. I also spotted one of the SR adults in the area. ![]() He landed a few minutes after I found him and I took some pictures but this time I didn’t circle him. Can you find the eagle here? ![]() Closer ![]() A little closer ![]() I have been seeing the Middle Ranch birds almost every day perched on the electric poles by Haypress Reservoir. Here’s K93 ![]() From a different angle ![]() K32 ![]() Getting closer ![]() Cont... |

This morning Pii’ ich and I had another eagle talk for a group of Conservancy guests who came to watch the bison roundup and work-up on the animals. It was very interesting watching the biologists separate out the males from the females and calves, draw blood, place ear tags and send them off to their appropriate pen. Pii’ ich behave well but nobody took pictures of the eagle talk. I did take some pictures of bison event. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The majority of them will soon be shipped out to a ranch in South Dakota, the rest will be released back on the island. Until next week, Steffani |

STEFFANI Lovely video of K87 flying--filled my eyes with tears of happiness, seeing her flying outside her old neighborhood. Soaring adult from SR--lovely capture too!Very interesting photos of the Bison --thank you for giving us the views of what other excitement is happening out there on beautiful Catalina. Looks like very hot, dusty work for those "wranglers". The Bison that go to South Dakota will love the home on the range, but, oh, boy, are they in for a shock with South Dakota winters! Brutal! Have a good week ahead, one more Santa Ana coming for a day or so, then cool cool weather for you. Should be a welcome relief for you and your co-herts on the Northern Channel Islands. |

QUESTION? Steffani, how far away are K93 & A32 from the orginal hoped for nesting area ( where you and Peter built the platform)? This is the third week of your photos of them sitting so regal on those telephone poles. |

SoCal Lady, They are in totally different canyons, about 5-6 miles apart. The burnt area is right off of the paved road while the reservoir is 2/3 of the way in into Middle Canyon. It's only a few minutes of a flight away for them but it is unlikely that they would roost so far away from their nest, assuming they use the same one next year. This is the off season though, we'll keep monitoring them but we wont know where they'll plan to nest until late January early February. |

Thank you Steffani for the answer to my question. It will be one more exciting eagle story to follow concerning this pair -K93 & his lovely A32 in early 2010. |

The young eagle is perching right at the bottom of that tree that's sticking out in the picture. I dont know of any sightings on A64. When there is one, it would be mentioned on the Channel Island Update though. We dont raise bison here, they are free roaming herd on the island. The ones that are being shipped out are going to the Lakota-Sioux Indian Reservation in South Dakota. I'm not sure what they would be used for over there. |

Yeah! It's always great to hear that Thunder and Lightning are still soaring above Catalina. You go girls! :soar: :soar: I wish my students could see the video. The district's filters won't allow it!
