This week on Santa Cruz, Amanda and I were both kept busy by finishing maintenance on some of our trucks on the island. We've been spending lots of time organizing our field gear as well as cleaning the office, since we have lots of time to get that done right now. We did manage to make it out in the field a couple times searching for the Sauces pair. We got a glimpse of both adults together, before the male took off and flew inland. The female stayed with us for a long time, and we got some photos of her and identified her as A-27. So it looks like A-27 and A-28 will be the new Sauces pair on Santa Cruz Island. A-27 perched south of Christy Beach, between Sauces and Christy ![]() ![]() ![]() We also headed out in search of K-10 and K-26 in the boat to Chinese Harbor. One of the birds graced us with its presence, but then we had to head back because the weather was starting to get a little rough out on the ocean. ![]() ![]() Unfortunately, we couldn't quite meet up with A-64. He seems to move to the opposite end of the island whenever we go look for him. Here's a map of his latest locations. The points in yellow show where he spent his time between September 25 and September 28, 2009. He sure does move around the island a lot, which makes it that much harder for us to get a visual on him. ![]() Until next week, Stephanie and Amanda |

Thanks for the great report - and it is interesting to see how much Spirit does get around! Maybe I should ask this in the questions thread - but I noticed that both A-27 and A-28 came from the Juneau, Alaska, area, and were released together - any idea if they're related? |

Thank you for the informative update. I'm glad the eagles are doing well, and that our "Island Boy" Spirit is still hanging around. |

Stephanie and Amanda - Thank you for the map of the latest exploits of A-64 Spirit, :soar: even if you didn't get to see him. ![]() Maybe you should start out in one direction looking for him, and then double back? Also, thank you for the confirmation sighting of A-27 & A-28, the new Sauces pair.

Thanka you Amanda and Stephanie for your update. Let's hope that love is in the air for A-27 and A-28. It sounds like A-64, Spirit is quite the Island Adventurer. :soar: |

Thank you so Much! A64, Spirit is an active boy and thankfully staying on his island. We'll be camping at Scorpion in two weeks, so we're gonna hope to see some eagles on our hikes. Thanks for the good news!
