Hello Everyone!

Not too much news to report this week from Santa Cruz, as most of our eagles seem to have settled in on Santa Rosa Island for the time being. There is a lot of hunting going on over there this time of year, leaving lots of elk and deer remains for the eagles to forage on. I tried several times this week to get visuals in various eagle territories here on Cruz, with no luck. I did manage to get a brief glimpse of who I believe to be A27, the new Sauces female, but other than that I will just have to chalk up my bad luck to the fact that there is so much activity on Rosa right now! Stephanie and I are working hard to arrange a trip over there October 20 - 27, so that we might finally get some visuals on these birds.

I did find it interesting to compare maps of GPS activity for the first week and a half of October for several eagles. Their movements are very similar, most likely because they are feeding in the same places of high hunting activity. Here are some maps to look at, with the yellow dots showing movement by each eagle over the last couple of weeks.

I hope we can go out there and see them for ourselves!

Almost every eagle we have GPS backpacks on are on Rosa right now except for our dear A64, who might be wondering where everyone has gone! He has made a trip to Anacapa, and continues to travel extensively all around Santa Cruz.

Right now there is some pretty intense weather moving on over the Northern Channel Islands, we’ve been getting a lot of rain and gale winds today. The clouds building up to the storm were beautiful, and it’s a nice change seeing as how we have been dry out here on Cruz since February.

That’s all for now, have a good week everyone!

A-64 Spirit - so GLAD he's hanging around - with all those dots you'd think he'd fly in front of the camera at least once!! Thank you for the update! Looks like those sea lions are waving :}^

Thank you, Amanda and Stephanie -
for the maps and GPS data on each eagle.
Glad they are well fed!
A-58 was last reported in Oregon in August! Now he's back on the Channel Islands!
Nice that A-64 Spirit is staying on Santa Cruz.
Hopefully he will stay there and raise his own eaglets when the time comes.

Very interesting to see the path of the birds' travels. Looks like some "fine dining" is to be found on Santa Rosa.

LOVE the pics of the coming rain and the sea lions. It's a beautiful world out where you are.

Not as lovely here in L.A. but the rain has washed months of dust from the trees and it's green and fresh out.

Good to know Spirit is still sticking close to home. Now that he is older, perhaps he has learned to avoid those kelp beds....

Thank you for keeping an eye on our eagles, Amanda. It must be difficult sighting any of them in this rain! But with the buffet over on Santa Rosa I guess you know where to find them. I look forward to hearing of their adventures when you & Stephanie can get out there.

I'm glad to hear that A64 Spirit is still spending most of his time on Santa Cruz. Vicki/Summer, Camille/eaglenut & I will be camping on SC this weekend and I'd sure love to see him - and his folks too! :X: that it dries out a bit before we go....
