Hello, Things are slowing down as far as fieldwork is concerned while office work has increased. The remaining 2009 eagles, K91 and K87, are still exploring the Catalina and we get readings on them once a week. This week we have been working on our Tracking an Eagle feature, which is one of our fun and informative sections on the IWS website. You will be able to track, “travel”, and follow the flying patters of the young eagles that have active GPS transmitters over the last few years. It will be available in the next couple of days so check out our website at www.iws.org under our Interactive menu. Pete has been pretty busy hiring new personal for the upcoming season; time of which we hope and expect to be really active and eventful, up on the Northern Islands as well as here on Catalina. I made a short video of A32, the female from the Middle Ranch pair, perched on an electric pole at the burnt area. Her mate, K93, has been spotted at the reservoir twice this week. ![]() I’d also like to share some photos of our captive eagles taken by Nancee Wells, IWS main volunteer and Membership Coordinator, who came out for a visit last week. Pii’ ich eating her quail ![]() Weighing the food and adding Vitahawk! ![]() Pimu’s first flight towards the perch to have some pork pieces ![]() Pimu allowing me to touch her feet every time I gave her an extra piece and surprisingly not bother by having another person in the cage holding a camera. ![]() Pimu enjoying her bass ![]() After she was done with the fish she decided to go to the pond for a drink and to clean herself, doing so surprisingly again since she normally waits for everyone to leave the cage before she goes to the water. ![]() ![]() Pimu Leaving the pond ![]() Pimu’s training is going really well as you can tell on the pictures. I have been introducing spare leather gloves to her cage and leaving them there, occasionally using them at feedings. She still freaks out if I wear them but she has to get over that so we have lots of work ahead of us. Pii’ ich is great as always. Yesterday, we had a visit from the Junior Scholars from our local school and we talked about the Bald Eagle Reintroduction Project and our captive birds. I can’t wait to have Pimu be more involved in many of our educational programs! That’s all for this week, Steffani |

Thanks for another great update, Steffani. Glad to hear K91 and K87 are sticking close enough for you to still get readings on them! Look forward to the Track an Eagle feature! You're making tremendous strides with Pimu! Love hearing the steps you're taking with her and how she's accepting them! Nancee's pictures of you working with her are some of the best yet! Thanks, Nancee! |

Great shots of Pimu! And a nice video of A-32 - I liked when she turned and stared right at you - and doggie by the sounds of it! Hopefully you won't be stuck in the office too much - but I'm looking forward to the GPS tracking - very cool! Thank you! |

Steffani, Pimu is doing so well. She wasn't nearly as friendly with you last May when we visited. I love you touching her feet, I just love feetsies on all critters, especially our eagles. Thanks again for all you do for all of us! |

Great update and super gorgeous eagles abound. I do get so nervous when they are on electric poles.
