Hi everybody,

We have spotted A32 and K93 spending quite some time by the burnt area. We don’t know what they could possibly find so attractive in this place since it’s really bare or why they would prefer this area to the reservoir but we’ll try to find out.

Over the weekend Pete and I loaded up the kayaks and took them to Two Harbors. We kayaked equipment across Catalina Harbor to get them closer to our trail and eventually up to the nest.

Loading up the kayaks with batteries, solar panels and other camera equipment.

I highlighted our landing area and part of the hike up. The arrow points to the TH nest.

A couple of days later we hiked more equipment up to the nest and Pete also carried the 60lb. batteries and 2 solar panels we had kayaked the other day. I highlighted parts of our trail going through a dense cactus patch.

Pete, looking for a potential spot to place a second camera by one of the eagles’ favorite roosting trees

We will be working on the cameras some more this week so you’ll probably see us pop up on the TH cam soon. We have a short window in which to refurbish the cams during the off-season so that we do not disturb the eagles and there’s a lot of work ahead of us!

Pimu and Hydi are doing great. No more snakes have been found in their cages since the last time but I always keep my eyes (and ears) peeled in case they decide to pay us a close visit.

Until next time,

Steffani

Dear Steffani,

Just popped in here to see if you'd posted early-- and you had.

You and Pete certainly get your exercise in your line of work!

And you called her "Hydi"? Well, easier to pronounce than Na Pi'iich!h

Wonder what's caught A32 and K93's attention?? Hmm.

Have a good week.

You do have to wonder what the appeal of burnt area would be to A32 & K93? Like choosing burnt toast over waffles?

Sure enjoyed the kayak photos...can't imagine carrying those batteries and solar panels. Thank you for these great nest cams!

Your "trek" is quite the challenge, especially carrying the heavy, bulky, cumbersome, etc. equipment.
I'm sure you and the IWS crew know how very much we appreciate your dedication and your extraordinary efforts
that allow us the priviledge of being a part of this wonderful experience to restore the Bald Eagle population to the Islands. :^: ^"^ :<<>>: :soar:
Thank you so very much!

:}^ STEFFANI - Once again you give us another interesting insight into the hours and hours of work involved to keep the CAMS going strong. I cannot imagine lugging all that weight on such steep terrain, without ideal footing as well.

It is bewildering about K93 & A32 liking the burnt area so much, when the Resavoir has good food source and lovely trees to nest, perch and shade when summer heat comes on. Will be very interesting to see where they decide to nest.
