Hello everyone-

As some of you may know already, Peter came out to Santa Cruz in mid-November to train our new employee, Don Jones. He will be working on both Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa with me helping monitor the eagles throughout the year. I was out with him this past week on Santa Cruz Island introducing him to the eagle territories where we hope to find nests next year.

We headed out to Willows where we were surprised to see A-37. She hasn't yet found a mate or a territory, so perhaps she is exploring in search of one or both. . .

A-37 later flew to another perch farther away from us where she spread her wings, soaking up the sun's rays

Don also was introduced to the territory of A-17 and K-11. We saw both eagles perched on the bishop pine covered peaks of the Sierra Blancas in the southwest corner of Santa Cruz. We couldn't read tags, but GPS confirmed that one eagle was indeed A-17. The other had an orange tag, so we are assuming it was K-11. We will continue to monitor those peaks in case they do decide to build a nest up there.

We had one good weather day, so we took advantage of the nice ocean conditions and headed out in search of the Cueva Valdez pair. We only found A-00 hanging out alone at Cueva and Hazards anchorage.

We were also able to get over to Chinese Harbor to search for the Pelican harbor pair. We didn't have to go far to find K-10, as he was in Prisoner's harbor. We found K-26 perched on the cliffs on the way to Chinese harbor.

We'll keep you posted as we see more eagles hanging out in their territories, possibly beginning work on their nests.
