The title of this highlight is "A whale swims by" but it looks like 4 separate objects - or a hump-backed sea monster. Can you please help identify what we are looking at? http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/25649122/highlight/294330 Thank you, |

wolfmom, as I watch the video, it looks like 3 small boats following something in the water. Maybe a whale ??? |

Maybe it's just the pixel affect, but it seems like all the objects, except maybe the one in the back left corner, go underwater at times... it's hard to imagine boats doing that. |

HI Wolfmom, I made the same observation on Sept. 23, on the Nest observations thread, on page 2. I watched four different moving objects. |

I just watched the video and it seems that all 4, and even a possible 5th object, were mostly submerged? The possible "5th" was more of a shadow of something moving beneath the surface, yet close to the top....and it was the farthest away. I don't know what they were. |

Thank you for the response. I always learn so much from this site, and appreciate your willingness to share the information. I've googled more information about Grampus griseus - and found some beautiful images and videos that others here might be interested in. What an amazing world we live in! http://www.kiwifoto.com/galleries/mammals/rissos_dolphin http://youtu.be/TnaMPI0muB8 |

Could they be kayakers? The second object especially never changes color, speed or shape. and is certainly always at the surface. The others appearing to be submerged could just be that the color values of the boats are more closely matched to the water. They are all kayak shaped - and they would not necessarily all be the same shape or size. I know the open-decked Ocean Kayaks are wider and shorter than a longer, skinnier, closed-deck sea touring kayak. |

I was thinking Kayake with dolphins following. The larger object never seemed to go below the water, where as some of the other objects did. |

I see large dolphins on my way to work most days. They're huge, as Peter said Rizzo Dolphins. This is why I love my commute to work daily. I've seen a whale only once so far on my commute. |
