2013 Nesting Season!

The TH nest of...K-81/m & K-82/f has 1 chick that hatched on March 25th and was banded on May 18th as K-38.

The WE nest of...K-01/m & Wray/f has Triplets...2 chicks hatched on April 4th and the 3rd chick hatched on April 7th.

The SC nest of...A-40/m & A-27/f...had TWO eggs...laid February 24th & February 27th.
The adults were defending their nest from an unseen intruder. A-27 was last seen at 9:12am Monday, March 4, 2013. A-40 continued to protect the nest and eggs alone until Thursday, March 7, 2013 when he left the nest at 7:22am. Ravens took both eggs at 7:47am.

Check out the dates on the Calendar...top right of this page...for further information...videos etc.

Please continue to post observations in the usual way...should you observe a parent switch or notice that the adult is not on the nest...it would be helpful to all of us if the time(s) could also be noted/posted ... along with whatever else you observe happening on the nest at that time.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Remember Dr. Sharpe has indicated in the past that he also wants us to simply enjoy the experience of watching all the happenings on the nests and learn more about these magnificent birds through the wonder of the Nest Cams.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY...either on or off camera...that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FOUR IWS nests with cameras online...so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
09:34 AM
We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
10:35 AM
Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011
04:45 PM
We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Bringing Forward:

After hours of working on the feeds yesterday, it seems, at least for my computers, that the embedded media players don't seem to work with Firefox running on Windows XP. Therefore I've added a second all cams page with only Ustream feeds. It is at http://www.iws.org/interactive_nestchat_allUstream.html. There is also a link above the West End cam on the page with the media player streams.

WE 5.46 >>:
K01 flies in from the peak area to the nest with a fish. Looks like #3 got the prize and mantles it to the 12. K01 flies right

5.47
#2 does some wingers. #1 goes to the rear for a steal, unsuccessful. Then stands behind waiting for another chance. #2 does more wingers.

5.48
Looks like #3 is done. Then all track around the nest to the front and left.

5.49
#1 does some wingers.

5.50
#3 does some wingers on the 12. #2 lays to the 9. #1 watches left and keeps an eye on #3 from the 6

Poor Dad. K38 really had a hold on his foot. She is such a big girl and looking so much like a grown eagle.
