<::: PLEASE READ

The Nest Observations/Nest Watch thread remains open...as long as there are cameras...which are operational...to watch.

Normally the VCOE and the IWS work on the cam equipment during the fall/winter...so the cams may go off from time to time .. but we are normally advised by them if they are working in the area.

IWS weekly updates will probably be posted .. as in the past .. during this off season.
Notified on the Catalina Update: October 30-November 6, 2013 ~ The next update will be in two weeks from today and will continue on a two week basis until the breeding season starts again.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY...either on or off camera...that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FOUR IWS nests with cameras online...so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

These nests are all in California...so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Bringing Forward:

After hours of working on the feeds yesterday, it seems, at least for my computers, that the embedded media players don't seem to work with Firefox running on Windows XP. Therefore I've added a second all cams page with only Ustream feeds. It is at http://www.iws.org/interactive_nestchat_allUstream.html. There is also a link above the West End cam on the page with the media player streams.

WE 6.07
K87 creeps in from the rear. She moves to the bowl and looks around, then begins to pick in the bowl. She alerts to the left and turns to the rock.

6.08
K01 flies in at the 3. K87 greets him. K01 begins to work with a branch that has slipped down between the rail branches. K82 picks at his feet. He warns her off.

6.09
K01 moves around to the 3 as K87 picks in the net again. They both face the front. K01 keeps putting her in her place as she nears his feet.

WE 6.11
K87 is getting beaky again. Snapping at K01s cheeks. He snaps back. She whines, but continues to be beaky. K01 retaliates.

6.12
K01 begins to preen. K87 goes back to picking in the bowl. She begins to move toward his feet again. K01 moves to the rear.

6.13
K87 turns to the 9, K01 at the 10. He works with his long branch he placed along the rock

WE K01 moves a branch one way, and K87 moves it back. Cooperation is hard to come by.

WE 6.14
K01 pulls the branch toward the rear, K87 grabs the other end. K01 begins to preen. Seems he uses that as an escape.

6.15
K01 finds a smaller branch and turns to put it at the 1, then places it back near the rock. K87 grabs hold of it for a bit, K01 takes it back.

6.16
K01 places it at the 1. K87 digs at the 9. K01 begins to look out to the rear

WE 6.17
Now they face each other. K01 at 12 facing front. K87 at 9 facing rear. K87 pretends to work in the nest. K01 watches and looks around.

6.18
K87 tinkers with a branch along the rock. I think it is the same one K01 pulled to the rear.

6.19
Some beaking. K87 whines. She is getting beaky again, K01 stands guarded. K87 whines at him.
