Doc, I was in chat for awhile and the question came up as to why the TH pair stayed off their (#1) egg at first but the SC pair immediately began incubating??? I know you don't read eagle minds yet, or maybe you do  but could you offer us any explanation? Oh, and also, does the normal egg come out hard shelled? We often say things like, ' they're letting it cool' or 'they're letting it harden' ...is that a myth? Thank you! Linda |

The eggs come out hard, as far as I know. The birds may be able to tell when they are going to lay more eggs, so they limit incubation of the eggs until all are laid to minimize the time span between hatchings. Two Harbors laid a second egg, whereas it appears that Sauces only laid one egg. |
