I don't know if there's anything that can be done, but a friend on another forum called my attention to a line in the story about the eagles nesting on San Clemente, as distributed by Reuters: "The female eagle, known to scientists as A-32, was hatched in a nest near Juneau, Alaska, in 2014 and released to Santa Cruz Island later that year. The male was hatched on Santa Cruz Island in 2004." She noted, quite correctly, that if A-32 hatched in 2014, it was quite unlikely that she'd be nesting this year - unless perhaps she was acquainted with Dr. Who and his time-traveling TARDIS. Other articles correctly note that A-32 hatched in 2004. The article seen by my friend was http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/World/2014/07/...826.html?cid=rs, and a quick google search turned up a couple of other outlets using Reuters as the source for their article and having the wrong year, so I'm guessing the original typo came from Reuters. And while I'm here - it is excellent news! And perhaps next year they will have their first chicks. |

Is it known who the male is? I didn't see a reference to a number, but since they know his release year I assume someone saw a number? Thanks, Nina Bliss |

And I didn't do the rest of my homework - thanks to Cumbrian's excellent wing bling charts - I see that K-76 actually hatched in 2007, not 2004 (link). Ah well - except for a few minor details, it is a great story! |
