Dr. Sharpe...On Nov. 1st a young bald eagle was spotted atop the Conservancy Building on Clarissa...this bird had orange tags but too far away to get the number. Today, Nov. 7, a young eagle was spotted on a boat ramp near the Casino with orange tags and the #46...maybe the same bird. Which nest is this eagle from? Thanks

Sounds as though K-46 has been released ...

Here's the information about her from the Wing-Bling Chart.

# K-46 (F) ... Official Name: Tiana

From: Rattlesnake Canyon Nest
Banded on: June 14/14
Fledged on:
Where Now? Catalina Update: June 17-27, 2014. Large branch fell from the nest tree on June 26th, K-46 on the ground.
Rushed to vet on mainland. Dr. Weldy found that she had two broken tibias. Surgery on June 27th.
Posted on the IWS FaceBook page. "The operation on K-46 appears to have gone well. Both tibias are now pinned and she will have at least a 6 week recovery."
July 7/14. Posted on the IWS FaceBook page in answer to an inquiry re K-46. " K-46 broke the pins and had to have another surgery on Saturday. We should be getting her back to care for her this week."
July 11/14. Posted on the IWS Facebook page. " K-46 is back on Catalina and we'll be caring for her for the next month or two. She will have another x-ray of her legs in a few weeks to determine whether the vet can start removing the pins."
Catalina Island Update: July 15-26, 2014. On July 24th K-46 had an x-ray at Dr. Denny's the local veterinarian. The pins were in great shape and nothing has moved which is good. Now waiting to hear from Dr. Weldy when they can be removed.
August 7/14. Posted on IWS Facebook page. " I will stream a camera on K-46, the Rattlesnake chick that broke both of her legs in a fall from the nest, for a while this afternoon. The pins in her legs are supposed to be removed next week."
August 13/14 Dr. Weldy flew over to the island and removed the pins. K-46 is still being housed in the IWS Office and has a camera monitoring her 24 hours a day.
On August 20/14 she attempted to stand, by the 23rd she was standing firmly on her right foot and doing better on her left which is the weaker one. Later that day, she was able to stand on both feet without her wings out for balance and even stood with one foot on her fish!
Catalina Island Update: August 25- Sept 5, 2014. On September 3rd K-46 moved to share Pimu's enclosure.

I've been hoping to see an update on the Rattlesnake Canyon juvie - perhaps there will be something this week!

Am I correct in assuming that "the Conservancy Building on Clarissa" is on Catalina?

Thanks, Pat, for bringing K-46's history over here (and for all the work you do to keep those entries up to date!).

This is terrific news if it is K46....if it is ....hope she quickly learns how to hunt there on Island or nearby Channel Islands...and stays there until she does. We all know their "crossing" to the Mainland is often troublesome for young eagles.

Judy, yes, Clarissa is about a block or so from the main street in Avalon on Catalina Island.
