Hi Marsha & Cat :}^

I must apologize for not putting Veterans Day in the chat title when I opened the thread this morning. :blsh:
Unfortunately I am using a Canadian calendar and it only said it was Remembrance Day, I'm so sorry :blsh:

No problem, Carole.

Someone came through at least our street overnight and put little American flags on the mailboxes of the houses that have individual mailboxes. What a wonderful thing to do! <3

Remembrance Day - the day of poppies

Posted Image

'In Flanders Fields' is one of the most famous poems written during World War I, created in the form of a French rondeau. It has been called "the most popular poem" produced during that period. Canadian physician and Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote it on May 3, 1915 after he witnessed the death of his friend, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, only 22 years old, the day before.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the dead. Short days ago
We lived, saw dawn, felt sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up your quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
— Lt.-Col. John McCrae (1872 - 1918)

Remembering all of our veterans on this Veterans/Remembrance Day - freedom is not free. Witnessed an amazing fly over on Sunday over the SB Veterans Parade of 15 vintage WWII planes - one bomber and 15 fighters flying in different groups of formation - they flew over the SB Parade and the Thousand Oaks Parade and then made 4 more loops of flying over the SB Beach area and back down to the Thousand Oaks area - just amazing - you could hear them before you saw them with the rumble of those propellers, esp. the bomber.
We were just getting ready to leave for Ventura to see the condor documentary called "The Condor's Shadow" on the condor recovery program followed by a visit from "Dolly" a 3 year old California Condor with her keeper Mike Clark from the LA Zoo - so got to witness the fly over from our driveway.
