Our dogs are chipped. No it doesn't hurt. The vet can put it in and you fill out the info and mail it in. Then if she gets lost any vet can scan her and get your info. Also put a tag on her with your phone number to cover all the bases. Not everyone will think to take her to the vet to scan for a chip. With your phone number on it they can call you right away. |

Now be careful she doesn't get caught in the yard on something with her leash and strangles herself trying to get loose. I guess the way to ensure that is to make sure her collar can slip over her head. |

This is a 14 minute clip by Fritz Coleman ... a Los Angeles TV weatherman. It's about getting old. We know all know about this but the presentation makes it worth the viewing. https://www.youtube.com/embed/LR2qZ0A8vic?rel=0 Only in the Streets of New York City- https://www.youtube.com/embed/6J6ElrZzCZg?rel=0 |

Sandie your little KeeKee is so sweet when she 's :lol:You might want to put a harness on her instead of a collar. This is what we use on Siobhan because small dogs can get a damaged trachea from pulling with a collar on. Siobhan already had a damaged trachea when we got her which prevents her from barking loudly...a decided plus for us The harness will also enable you to pull your dog up out of harms way immediately without choking her. There is a ring in the centre of it which you attach a leash to. I always use a retractable leash because I can make it any length at a moments notice too.I have the very smallest one which is extremely light and fits in a pocket when it is removed. This way there is no extra to get caught in anything when the dog is sitting in your lap for example. Of course, if your yard is fenced you won't need to keep her on it all the time. I only use ours when we are out and about

Laurie thanks so much for the info. She has a release collar on her so if something like that does happen it does a quick release. Shannon (the breeder) had a cat collar on her that also quick release but it wasn't holding very well. i'm being very careful with the leash. I just drop it with any issue. Much safer. I have never watched a puppys butt so much ![]() Thanks Penny I'll look into that. The reason she is on the leash is also because of the hawk, owl and egret. They could make a real meal out of her Just now I took her out after she started to peepee and it took her a little while to "get it" that she was out there for a reason other than chase leaves chew on twigs and listen to her neighbors!!! She finally did. Now she is getting fleas. I thought it was too cold for that now but I guess not. I have to check into when she can have that.I want to Interview vets and see who I like. Any ideas other than recommendations? |

Fleas??? Sandie.. she can't already have fleas... Where did they come from??? I would have her mico-chipped ASAP... that far outweighs any other argument. So many dogs have been returned to their owners because they were chipped. Please put your phone number on her. I have had so many times that I've found dogs and had to take them in to the Humane Society... a phone number would be so easy. New pups require such responsibility... they are your new baby and depend on you. |

For our dogs we use Advantage to protect against fleas. It's little drops you put on the dog's back once a month. Works for our dogs. You buy according to the weight of the dog. No prescription needed. You can get it at a pet store or even Amazon. We also give HeartGuard every month to protect against heart worm. But you have to have the vet test for heart worm first to make sure she doesn't have it and then the HeartGuard is by prescription. It's also by weight. You can't give it to the dog unless they are already clear of heart worms. If a dog has heart worms the vet has to cure them first and then put them on HeartGuard. |

SO MUCH TO LEARN Thanks for all the valuable info. I read a lot about the chipping There seems to be some fear of cancer. I'm gonna wait til she is a little older then do it. But for sure the little tag That will be tomorrow!!!Barb I am going to use the dawn idea first. Sounds a little less toxic. Lala I wish I knew where they came from. There were three or four crawling on her. And I am pretty sensitive to them also and I feel them crawling on me!! I think I got them off of her. But I will keep checking her for them. |

Microchipping will not cause cancer. It's tiny, about the size of a grain of rice, it just sits there. But of course the decision lies with you. First thing you need to do is take her to the vet for a check up and proper advice. |

The chip is a very good idea as well as the harness. Coming from someone who has 5 Chihuahuas. Barb |

Hi Barb! My best friend of 40+ years in California and her husband, have just became parents of a Chihuahua this past year. They love love love this dog! Don't be a stranger. I haven't been able to post a lot lately, but I do get on before and read/catch up on what's going on. I always get a "smile of the day" from hearing what is going on in Eagletown! Take care!
