I had a very sick puppy last night.....my own fault. I allowed my landlord to watch her for about 1/2 hour while I went to enjoy my old boss who was having his birthday party at a bar down the street. I'll never do that again. When I got home landlord had allowed her to run all over the back yard and she had mud up to her elbows. Landlord kept saying I'm sorry.....she is just a puppy and should run. I had to put Akeelah in the bath tub and give her a bath after it was dark. She shivered for nearly 1/2 hour from being cold. Then she promptly threw up on me. Then I had to take a bath. I thought it was very disrespectful inconsiderate and selfish. on her part. My back was hurting well actually screaming and burning like fire. Akeelah was wound up really tight and I think she could sense my pain and kept coming to me and half crying. A friend of hers came over earlier and kept saying oh lucky little dog with such a huge back yard to play in. That part was NOT lost on me. I just shouldn't have let her "puppy sit" but I know she has been emotionally upset and I thought maybe Akeelah could give her some comfort. I could really use some help here. What do I say/do? All of you have such good advise. (
a long time last night. I have to live here with her. I'm not very good with confrontation. Maybe I felt a little bullied by her too. Carol I think Hanukkah is the right way to go even for us Christians. Several days of prayer and celebration. What can be wrong with that!!!! I watched the kids practice their Christmas celebration yesterday. It was the last day of rehearsals and one of the young ladies has really fallen in love with Akeelah and she asked me to come. How could I not? They were all so adorable. I believe it's back to bed for me for awhile. Not feeling very happy/hurting too. BBL.

Happy Winter Solstice Everybody![]() The Winter Solstice is an astronomical phenomenon occurring in December every year when Sun's elevation with respect to Earth reaches its lowest value (-25.5 degrees). It is accompanied by the longest day on the South Pole and the longest night on the North Pole. |

Sandie, sorry your pup got sick. I'm not sure what you're asking for advice about???? Just don't let her pup sit anymore.... teach puppy to remain in crate when you go out... that's what we always did with our mini schnauzer...at least until he was several years old and we knew he could be 'trusted.' |

SANDIE My advice..."chalk it up to experience" as to what happened with landlord and puppy sitting KeeKee....she certainly meant no harm. No confrontations needed at all. Just a difference of opinion...so let it go. I totally agree with AMTHSYT...when you must leave home and doggie cannot go with you...put her in her carrier...she will be safe and warm and dry. If you are concerned her little yipping would annoy neighbor...then put carrier in the bathroom or bedroom......but I doubt she is any louder than your Bernie when he gets to squawking. and you also would not come home to puppy mischief while you were away to have to clean up. Now rest today...so your back can settle down and relax your mind. LAURIE....Sending you and hope you are sleeping more restfully.

Carole, don't know if you are aware but there is some physical problem with Harriet at the FL eagle's nest... some say foot, some say wing, some say she was having balance problems... The realty owners have notified the proper authorities and they too are keeping an eye on the situation... "Viewers may have noticed Harriet having some balance issues this morning. Because of this abnormal behavior, The Pritchett Family has contacted Florida's Federal Wildlife Center and the local rehabilitation center, C.R.O.W.. We will continue to monitor Harriet's condition and if necessary C.R.O.W. and the FWC officials will decide how to proceed. This is an active nest and any interference will be at the direction of FWC. While we hope this was isolated behavior for Harriet, SWFEC will keep our viewers updated when information is available." |

AMTHYST...Oh Dear... about Harriet .... I don't know what wildlife folks can do even if there is something seriously wrong with her...they are sitting on eggs and there is no chance at all that Harriet could be interferred with or even caught near impossible. Hopefully this is a temporary health condition...that will solve on its own.

Well, I just went to her and said how inconsiderate I thought her actions were especially knowing how much pain I was in. She knew exactly what she did was wrong cause the minute I mentioned it she was immediately sorry. I just told her how sick Akeelah got and so I don't think we will have a problem again. I have not been using the crate too much yet but I think I must do it with or without yelping! SO MUCH TO LEARN!!!!! Loved all the graphics this morning. Poor Harriet!! There might be something or medicine they could give her by way of a fish or bird she might eat from the nest. Guess catching her is pretty out of the question? I imagine it would have to get pretty bad for that to happen.Karen good advise. for Laurie.

Happy Winter to all.I'm afraid I've become one of those Chat people who pops in and out. I try to read to stay current with everyone's activities but don't always comment. Laurie to you and your DHCarole: Great to see the pond critters again Sandie: I forgot what a lot of work a little puppy is. Our last 2 dogs were a little older, already potty trained. But yours is darling. And more hugs to those with various family health issues. Hanukkah and Christmas greetings to all who celebrate. And best wishes for the coming year of and and

I have been so upset all day over Harriet's condition but she is being monitored 24/7. The timing is awful as the chicks are due any day now. Prayers and Cruzer Mojo to Harriet that all turns out well

Sandie a great strategy for a new puppy is two confined locations. One is for short-term confinement, like if you are going away for 3-4 hours. This would be a create or carrier. The other is a larger space for when you are gone for longer periods of time. You can use larger barriers (dog enclosures and gates) to make a big space for her with a litter box and a dog bed. In both situations put in toys, things to chew on, and water. This way you know she is safe and you know you will come home to how you left her. It'll give you great peace of mind. |
