Good morning all! Penny, re. your mom's caregivers..... Someone is in charge of these caregivers, a supervisor! That's where the complaints and accountability rests! Especially if it is government run. Go up the ladder. Be courteous, but firm. Neglection of duties is life-threatening for your mom. The person in charge.... is the one who is falling down on the job. My experience with rest homes has the people administering the meds writing down the date and time and meds everytime they visit the patient. If the required care is not being given, that is neglect. I'll bet someone up the ladder would like to know what is happening! DH got pretty good care, but once in a while a caregiver would be off work unexpectedly - BUT whoever substitutes should be able to look at your moms chart and know exactly what's happening or not happening! |

Marti you are so so so right. They should be able to tell what meds she is taking and when. The State is another one that would like to know about that. Well, at least here they would like to know about that. Penny yup that's pretty much what Akeelah looks like when she is barking at herself. I think that looks like a Maltese. The way you can tell best is the tail. No other breed has a curl in the end of it's tail. Very cute dog tho. It is freezing here this morning. I cranked up the heater and it still feels cold inside. Not but burr all the same. Wow it took forever to beat the batter for the pumpkin bread but it still tastes Of course now my elbow and neck are burning. I guess that is what the muscle relaxers are for. Guess I should pick them up at the pharmacy????

Just to be clear, my Mom is not in a care facility, she is in a Retirement home run by a private company. This is a place where people who are still able to manage live until they are panelled for a higher care facility. There are Gov't Health Care workers who come in to give meds and they do keep track of when they gave them. My Mom's are in a lock box so she cannot help herself to any of them. This is not the same situation as a nursing home. I have already let the 'bosses' know what has happened here. The really idiotic thing is that the care worker was less than 2 feet away from my Mom's med box when she came to get her to take her to lunch, but because giving her the meds was not on her task sheet she didn't give her the pain pill. These meds are in blister packs marked for the day and portioned in Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner and Bedtime separately. If the med is there it means she hasn't had it yet. Their excuse is that she could be given it more than once if they don't have just one person assigned to give it. This stuff is all to protect them from possible legal issues. I am just so  that the after hours operator couldn't just call the facility and tell one of those people to give my Mom her pain pill. They can do it but no supervisor was there to okay that ![]() It's all bureauocratic red tape to protect themselves

Penny understandable but still. Some things ok to "miss" but pain pill is not one of them in my opinion!!!I had a pair of mockingbirds checking out the tree in my back yard for maybe a nest???? Wait until they see Akeelah and the grey cat that roams my yard. That probably won't happen. People could learn from our birdies. Gotta check out the neighborhood and the occupants

Good Morning Cold here again today. I'm all bundled up. We've been down to just above freezing the last three nights. Nothing like Penny through. We've off to Irvine this afternoon to see an Antarctic documentary about a family living there for a year. Hint, hint. Wonder why we want to see that? The boys are coming tomorrow for the week so mom and dad have some time for a little trip alone. We'll be very busy this week. Have a great day. |

I must have been really out of it yesterday. I just realized that I posted my message on the wrong day's chat. Oh, well.... Sandie, did i say Thank you, Thank you?! It was so great being there with you and Wendy. and, of course, Akeelah! When I got my two dogs (They've both travelled over the rainbow bridge now), I got several books because I didn't really know how to deal with dogs. My driving at night problem is new...and mostly when I drive on a freeway or road with lost of cars coming in the other direction. I'm pretty sure now that the problem is cataracts. %#&*#! I just spent $450 for two pairs of glasses and if I have the cataract surgery, they will be useless. Then again, at the moment, the distance glasses are useless anyway because wearing them makes my vision worse than not wearing them. That's wierd. Penny, I can just feel the tension you must be experiencing dealing with the situation with your DM. I hope you can get it worked out so you can enjoy your trip without the constant worry that something will go wrong. Did you tell us where you are going? Someplace warm, I hope. Where IS Deb (Harpo)? Love the sunset picture, Sandie. By the way, right before I left for your house, I reminded myself to remember my camera. Guess myself didn't hear me, because I forgot it anyway. Looks like taking a picture of me wrecked your camera. Sorry.

Did you leave your camera here?? I have not seen it!!! Unless Wendy picked it up by accident. You did not ruin my camera  silly! The picture I took of you just didn't turn out very well. I took it facing the slider and light coming toward the camera is not good. Oh well!!! Glad you got home safe. But problem could be cataract. So what else can go wrong

Sandie...Spectacular sunset. My second cousin has taken some awesome photos of ocean sunsets recently...the colors are beautiful. Lala...Look at that spread of Chistmas goodies...yummm... Penny...So sorry that the staff at the retirement home is so neglectful...such a worry for you..and your Mom is just one of the residents...wonder if this is a common occurrence with other residents. It's become such a pain just to go to the Dr. now...so many rules and regulations just to protect themselves. Chiquita |

I'm about to list this on ebay (I'm having great success selling stuff on ebay!) & thought I'd share it with you all first! My Mom was a stewardess for Western Airlines in the 40's. On a flight in 1946 Barbara Hale (played the secretary in the original Perry Mason TV series) was on her honeymoon with Bill Williams. So 33 years later my Mom was either attending or working at a store opening that Barbara was at & she signed this book for her (I also have a signed 8x10 photo of Barbara & Bill that was given to my Mom). The cover has separated from the book, but tape should fix that!

No, Sandie, I left it at my house, sitting right by the door so I wouldn't forget to bring it. Aargh! |
