Marti they are both beautiful. I like the more striking one on top but that's just me. Glad you like the new ones better. Yeah.....lets blame Lala for it all. I too love peacocks now. I have read that they are missing some enzyme! I have just been taking it out of the litter box as soon as she poops. That was recommended. Chiquita wasn't that just awful. The Harbor patrol guy was in his 30's and th other guy was in his 50's. But the woman that yelled avalanche saved those other people on the mountain. I've only heard snippets of that so far but so glad they are all ok. That shot of the snow on the mountain is seldom seen believe me. I know we need the moisture but this is slightly overkill!!! Sure shows how cold we are!!! I have someone coming to buy my jute carpet, maybe. If it goes thru my new wool rug and all the other stuff I bought at the thrift store will cost me $100!!! My Coopers hawk came for a quick visit today. Now I have mixed emotions about it coming by! But I still like seeing it. |

I was told that the enzyme in pineapple will stop the dog from eating poop, as the dog is missing this natural enzyme. Great advice Kathleen and wishing you a very Happy New Year.

My dogs used to go after the cat poop in the cat box. Yuck, indeed. I don't think they outgrow it, Sandie and you can't be there every minute to watch them. The suggestion about pineapple is intriguing. I wonder what the vet would think of doing that. Good luck with the problem, Sandie. After a raging rainstorm overnight, it is sunny and bright right now, but windy and cold. I think of those folks who camp out all night on Colorado Boulevard waiting for the Rose Parade and glad I'm not doing that. I've watched the parade several times in person and the fact is that you can see it better on the TV. The local channel here, Channel 5, runs it all day and the floats are on display for a couple of days afterwards. I like to go up to the top of our hill and see the stealth bomber and its accompanying fighter jets fly by, but I don't know if they are going to do it this year. Gives me a chill watching it, even on TV. The rain and wind made alot of noise in the night and my cats were freaked out by it. I just tried to cuddle them when they would allow it, and talk softly and assure them that I wouldn't let the storm get them. |

Hi again, Mina, it was my vet who suggested the pineapple. Isn't that Mount Baldy in the LA background? Sure looks great but I know how shocked Californians are by cold. That was me for 63 years before I moved here. I don't think the Rose Bowl parade crowds will be deterred by the cold. I went once for a special event with friends, had breakfast on the roof of a downtown building and then sat in the aluminum bleachers and watched it. The planes are always awesome. After watching in person, I went home and turned on Channel 5 so I could actually see the floats. They go by so quickly and efficiently, that you miss so much detail. Hate to say it but I think I prefer the TV coverage. Luckily, one of the cable channels uses the Channel 5 broadcast so I still get the Stephanie Edwards and Bob Eubanks coverage here. I can't deal with the networks and cutting to commercials every time there is a band or some horses. As a former member of a marching band, I think that is so disrespectful of the time those band members put into getting ready for a parade to sell out for a commercial. Speaking of planes, my community lost an Air Force pilot recently in an action against ISIS. The funeral was on a Sunday afternoon at his former high school about 12 miles from my home. Apparently, my neighborhood was between an air base in Nevada and the funeral. I was on the phone when the F16s flew over and shook everything. They flew in missing man formation over the funeral. Those who were there said it was really something to experience. The loss of that one young man was such a terrible waste. Kathleen New Castle, Colorado |

Good Morning Busy packing up the Dicken's Village. Slow process but making progress. The picture Marti posted is not from today. Baldy has a little snow on the very top but just a dusting. We live just below San Antonio Canyon. We had lots of wind last night but only a tenth of an inch of rain. Still in the 40's again today. Third day in a row with only 40's. Been down to 33º the past 4 nights. Brisk. Have to get back to work. The boys want to stay up until midnight tonight. We'll see if they can make it. Not so sure. |

It was heartbreaking news this morning when DH told me about the tragedy at Avalon Harbor during the night. The Harbor Patrol Staff at all the harbors around Catalina risk life and limb to help corral boats in wind storms. This time it was deadly.

Beautiful sentiments as we close out the year, Karen; perfectly expressed. Cat, I would also like to extend my sympathies on the loss of your friend Bobby. You were a wonderful friend to her. And such sad news on Avalon. I'll bet and Maria knew the men. Finally, Happy New Year to all.

Marti, I love your peacock pictures.. better than the first ones that were sold... yours are very soft and more realistic.. to me anyway. Harpo, we need to get a group together this year.. If we could throw out a date in the next month or two it would give others a chance to join us and meet for the first time. Things fill up fast in Avalon.. but there are houses to rent and share.. just keep your thinking caps on everyone... another group date in Catalina. I miss seeing Joanie and Scott and Chiquita, Mina. Everyone does there own thing but we manage to have some meals and time together.. Jeanne and Carole were with us last time as well as Jann and Dave... know I'm missing others.. but it would be fun to invade Avalon again. |

Kathleen, I agree so much about cutting to commercials when the bands are coming. Those kids work all year to get here and their families are home watching and videoing the parade... and then nothing!... There should be an uncut version that is available for those kids and families. I love Bob and Stephanie as the parade.. they are so knowledgeable about every participant.. Bob especially with the horses.. |

Thanks again for all the kind words concerning Bobbie's passing. I will miss her so much. DH and I got our errands run. The grocery store was a zoo. I decided to make posole for New Year's day. I haven't made it in years but I love the stuff. Yesterday we had the strangest weather at our house. It looked like the moisture in the air froze. It was very pretty - like glitter falling! No clouds, just little ice particles blowing in our strong winds. |
