Here ya go Sandie... Nest is way over to the left side now.. used to be upright with tree.. It is kind of falling apart rather than falling down. The small limb holding it is full of stress marks and cracks and I can't imagine how it is still there... you can see from the photo how small the limb is. Both adults are guarding the trees and I have not seem them near the nest lately.. just nearby. The juvenile eaglet from this year (I assume) is across the cove from the nest. The coot that is one of my pictures was stolen from the juvie by this adult.... Ojai Hiker and her husband hike the trail every day and she has gotten some great shots of the juvie.. in no hurry to leave Casitas it seems.![]() ![]()

I'm not too worried about them laying an egg in the nest as it would roll right out...seems to be going on its side as it slips away... The other nests you see are from five or so years ago.. they are from the Great Blue Herons who had this group of trees as their rookery .... Eagles may try and enlarge one of them but they aren't strong either. |

MARTI...Your new purchase of the peacock is beautiful. I like the softness much better and I am sure you will find it much more relaxing visually too. Enjoy!!! LALA I agree...very doubtful the eagle pair would use that nest. Will be interesting to where you track them to their new nest building. KATHIE...Yes you are right...B-)) and Maria surely must know the Harbor Patrol officer and his family. Sad day for all the Island residents. LAURIE...Thinking of you and sending extra to you and David. DH is cat/napping, I am watching football and going thru my Prime Rib recipes to choose which one to use tonight. We will have Roasted Fingerling Potatoes with garlic & rosemary and salad with blue cheese dressing. We will skip dessert tonight...as we had homebaked muffins for breakfast.

Cat, that type of frozen precipitation is common here. It is called groppel or graupel. "Graupel (German pronunciation: [ˈ¨Àʁaʊpɛl]; English /ˈ¨Àraʊpəl/, also called soft hail or snow pellets) is precipitation that forms when supercooled droplets of water are collected and freeze on a falling snowflake, forming a 2¨C5 mm (0.079¨C0.197 in) ball of rime." It is very different from hail. So much smaller and usually blowing in the wind as yours was. Seems to fall when it is too cold to snow. Kathleen New Castle, Colorado |

Happy New Year's Eve my friends!!! Karen, beautiful sentiments, and I feel the same. catM, I am so sorry to hear about Bobbie. My condolences. Well, long story short my sister is back staying with me. I know. I know. She put down deposits on an apartment and the move-in date is Feb. 4th, so she won't be with me for too long. I think my New Year's Eve is going to be pretty quiet. I have a bad headache that is turning into a migraine. As soon as I get home, its bed for me. Everyone please have a safe and happy New Year's Eve!!! |

Today at the Rose Bowl there was a video capturing a 'dust devil' wind storm... very spooky how fast it happened... (short 15 second commercial first) http://ktla.com/2014/12/31/rose-bowl-dust-...sadena-stadium/ |

Happy New Year's Eve to All! I made a special very Italian supper tonight, called simply, Baccala... it is one celery heart chopped, 2 onions chopped and sautéed in olive oil, with 1 1/2lb salted cod that has been soaked and cut into large chunks, 1 1/2lb fresh cod loin also chunked, 3 cans crushed tomato, 3 cups water, oil cured olives, regular olives, and prunes for sweetness...seasoned with black pepper, salt if you wish and red pepper flakes...simmer 20 mins or until fish flakes...I let it sit awhile before serving to meld the flavors. (be careful oil cured olives have pits) served in a bowl along with any type of crusty artisan/rustic bread buttered!

 I'm not sure what's going on in my back yard but these little brown birds are just having a field day flying from tree to tree. There must be about 50 of them out there. So cute! Kathie thanks for that tip. I'm putting some pineapple in her food for her evening meal. I think it is so gross. It started right after her second set of shots. Wonder if that's part of it. Maybe it depleted something in her makeup. OMG I just can not stand to watch these commercials of ASPCA. If I had some extra $$'s i'd be giving it to that organization. I feel like crying every time I see that. Cat that sounds very odd. Is it hail like? Praline as long as it is still viable and just a small setback I guess you can handle it. Just sorry it is something that you still have to deal with. Hope you have a quiet safe holiday. HHHMMM Lala. I'm sure they must know better than to use that nest or any of the others there for that matter. It would be nice if one of their offspring would hang around!!! I so agree I love listening to the bands. It is important for them to get the recognition of being there. After all that time of practicing they deserve to be heard and enjoyed! And all that walking They deserve a prize just for that feat alone!!

Sandie, I had a Keeshond, we lived in the woods...many bunnies left their 'calling cards' around the house... Keeshond ate them like snacks... we did try to stop him but sometimes he was quicker than us... I called them bunny treats! As in, "noooo, don't eat the bunny treats!" |

Linda, your dinner sounds very comfy and delicious. Thanks for sharing. I just spent a couple of hours going through pages of printed recipes that I thought I would use. Some have become favorites and they are now in a new folder. Will be much easier now to find that one recipe that I want. Sandie, if the birds were very, very small they were probably bushtits.. they travel in groups of 12 or more.. but stay in bushes and trees... if they were larger I'm not sure... |
