RIP Laurie/EmeraldSkye it was a pleasure to have met you here, you continued to be one amazing woman. I will think fondly of you always :soar:
From her blog: It is with much sadness that I inform you that Laurie Dee (Wells) Coleman took her last flight. Laurie, 44, of San Jose passed away on January 09, 2015 after an almost 7 year battle with Colon Cancer. Laurie was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on November 29, 1970 to Margaret “Pegi” Kelly and Richard Dearl Wells. She attended Wichita Falls High School and continued on to receive a BS in Biology and BS in Medical Technology from Midwestern State University. Laurie was a Clinical Laboratory Scientist whose most recent jobs were at El Camino Hospital and Stanford University. Laurie is the beloved wife of David Coleman and is survived by her two gentle and adoring Akitas. Laurie’s hobbies included gardening, raising chickens and participating with people throughout the country in observing the restoration of the bald eagles and rehabilitation of other raptors. Laurie is survived by Pegi Kelly (mother), Dearl Wells (father), Krystal Arthur (half-sister) and her husband. She was predeceased by Darren Wells (brother). Memorial services will be held in San Jose, California and Wichita Falls, Texas. Instead of flowers, Laurie’s wishes are for donations to be made to either: Raptor Education Group, Inc; P.O. Box 481; Antigo, WI 54409; (715) 623-2563 http://www.raptoreducationgroup.org/Donate.cfm or Institute for Wildlife Studies; attn. Dr Peter Sharp; P.O. Box 2500; Avalon, CA 90704; (310) 510-2728 |

OUR DEAREST EMERALD SKYE, LAURIE.You fought the battle valiantly these many years. You inspired us all with your courage, your sense of humor on days that were so very tough to endure. I know your Spirit now Soars high and strong. For your loving DAVID and your family , who all knew this day was too fast approaching, (we all here knew it too) but it does not make it any one bit easier to bear for you. I pray in time, you all find comfort and peace. LAURIE will ALWAYS be remembered by us here. We are Blessed to know her... she shared her joys, her knowledge, the garden, her recipes, her good days and her hard days with us. We were all so happy for her, enjoying her peeps in the bathtub, growing into "the girls", such beauties and so much more LAURIE shared with us all..

I have no words to express my sadness at hearing of Laurie's passing. Others before have said it well. She was an inspiration with her apparent cheerfulness as she faced each new challenge. I am so glad we knew her thru Chat. Deepest condolences to her dear David and fur children and her extended family.

Laurie was such a wonderful friend.. yet we had never met... I felt a connection with her on so many levels. I admired her inspirational flight.. one I felt she would win for sure. I loved her affection for her beautiful Akitas and adoration for her chickens. Not everyone names their chickens but since knowing Laurie, I have named our 8 new chickens. I admire you, David, for all the dreams that you made come true for her.. You are an angel on earth in my eyes... or maybe an 'eagle on earth'. You made her final months so memorable and special and you made her strong... and it made all of us happy to witness... I cry again for both of you yet I know where Laurie is for sure.... and she's got a smile on her face. Hugs David |

Laurie Coleman -- EmeraldSkye -- such a strong, courageous, gracious woman! Her love for the eagles was immense. It was a pleasure to have her join in the weekend tours the last two years. She was funny, smart, inquisitive -- all the things that make a fantastic advocate for our eagles. May she soar free now, always watchful over the love her life, David. I am honored to have called her friend.
