<::: PLEASE READ

Egg...citing News.

The SC nest of...A-40/m & A-48/f...now has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest.

The TH nest of...K-81/m & K-82/f...had TWO eggs...laid February 25th at and February 29th.
April 14, 2016. Dr. Sharpe stated that the egg/s were over a week past hatching (5 week incubation).
April 15, 2016. Dr. Sharpe went to the nest and removed One Egg and retrieved some broken egg shell from the bowl. He said, "Collecting the egg for contaminant analysis before it breaks. We haven't done anything since 2008."
This is the first time an egg hasn't hatched on this nest since they started nesting in 2003.

The WE nest of...K-01/m & K-91/f...now has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest.

Please continue to post observations in the usual way, but should you observe a parent switch or notice that the adult is not on the nest, it would be helpful to all of us if the time(s) could also be noted/posted...along with whatever else you observe happening on the nest at that time.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FOUR IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

These nests are all in California...so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
09:34 AM
We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Bringing Forward:

Posted 4/22/16 on the IWS Facebook page:

"It looks like I need 1-2 new antennas for the West End camera feed. I'll order those today. The Two Harbors antenna at the nest needs to be manually reset, so I don't know when I'll do that, but fortunately we are not missing the nesting season there."

The chicks rise. Big does a PS to the 3, Little does a PS to the 8. Big threatens Little with open beak, then lays down at the front. Little steps to the 11 and scans.

Then Little does a couple of wingers in the wind, then lays down nest to Big, Yin and Yang

SC .. 8:13am .. >>: ?

A-48 whines as A-40 arrives from the rear with what looks like a prey.

She doesn't move and he flies off a minute later over the front.

Wind is certainly strong here .. the nest is rocking!

8:21am .. A-48 flies off over the front.

SC .. 8:44am .. A-48 returns from the right with fluff.

She moves to the rear and picks up what could have been nestovers or whatever Dad delivered before and carries it to the right.

Both chicks do a PS .. one to the right .. other to the left .. then stand in front of Mom accepting the food.

SC .. 9:57am .. Big rises and does a PS over the left side.

Then she stretches out her wings. Does a few flaps.

9:59am .. A-48 stretches out her right wing and it covers Big's head. :D

Mom moves to the right side and starts to self feed .. Big moves in for share.

Small remains at the front.

10:02am .. now he rises and moves over to watch the feeding. Then does a PS over the front and flaps. Moves behind Big and bumps her. Then starts to do some wingers and Big turns and beaks at him.

Mom is hungry so she continues to eat. Big sits beside her and is fed .. Small stands Tall at the front and starts to preen.
