<::: PLEASE READ

Egg...citing News.

The BC nest of...K-76/m & A-32/f...have TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest.

The SC nest of...A-40/m & A-48/f...now has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest.

The TH nest of...K-81/m & K-82/f...had TWO eggs...laid February 25th at and February 29th.
April 14, 2016. Dr. Sharpe stated that the egg/s were over a week past hatching (5 week incubation).
April 15, 2016. Dr. Sharpe went to the nest and removed One Egg and retrieved some broken egg shell from the bowl. He said, "Collecting the egg for contaminant analysis before it breaks. We haven't done anything since 2008."
This is the first time an egg hasn't hatched on this nest since they started nesting in 2003.

The WE nest of...K-01/m & K-91/f...now has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest.

Please continue to post observations in the usual way, but should you observe a parent switch or notice that the adult is not on the nest, it would be helpful to all of us if the time(s) could also be noted/posted...along with whatever else you observe happening on the nest at that time.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

These nests are all in California...so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011

We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011

We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

SC .. 9:13am .. Big takes a piece of the fish to the front .. does a PS over the left branches and starts to eat the scrap .. then moves over to the right rear to work on it.

Mom eats what's left.

Small and Mom watch skywards .. then she moves some fluff over where the fish was.

9:17am .. Small flaps his way to the front.

Big finishes eating and moves to stand between Mom and Small.

SC .. 10:00am .. A-48 flies off front left.

10:06am .. Small opens his wings as Mom flies in from the right rear with fluff.

They track skywards .. Mom stands with her tail over Big who is resting in the middle of the nest.

Small stares at what Mom brought in.

He beaks her. Then moves backwards to do a PS over the rear.

A large strand of fluff moves up and Mom moves it to the left.

SC .. 10:14am .. >>: ?

A-40 lands at the left with something dark.

No one gets excited .. so unsure if it's prey.

Cam froze .. when I refreshed the cam is zoomed out.

Maybe the IWS Cew are there?

Missed Dad leaving. Or his return with a stick.

Had to refresh a couple of times.

FP - Quick zoom in or ? on the nest.

edit: Checking the archives, there doesn't appear to be any zooming of any kind, so possibly my feed had a hiccup or something that appeared to be zooming?

SC - I've spent the past hour & a half going through the archives to see what happened here.

Will post synopsis here from my notes.

5:34am - A-48 wakes up, stretches & flies off.

6:05am - A-48 returns and feeds the chicks from nestovers.

6:09am - A-40 flies in and leaves a few seconds later.

6:23am - A-48 flies off & returns with fluff a minute later. Beautiful fly out and return! <3

6:26am - A-48 flies up & disappears behind the nest.

6:29am - A-48 returns with a branch in her beak.

6:32am - A-48 flies off again.

6:41am - >>: A-48 returns with a bird and begins plucking.

6:44am - YIKES! :8O: Bird is alive! :( Flaps its wing as A-48 begins to feed the chicks.
Mom gets it under control and continues to pluck & feed. :(

7:52am - A-48 flies off again.

8:07am - A-48 returns with something in her talons. Too quick & fuzzy to see what it was, but it didn't appear to be food.

8:11am - A-48 flies off to the left.

8:12am - A-48 returns with fluff. Flies off again 2 minutes later at 8:14am.

8:16am - A-48 returns with more fluff.

8:56am - A-48 flies off to the left again.

8:58am - A-40 arrives.

9:02am - Chick does a big PS to the 2.

9:07am - >>: A-48 arrives with a large fish.

9:09am - A-40 flies off to the left.
