2016 Nesting Season!

The BC nest of...K-76/m & A-32/f...has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest.

The SC nest of...A-40/m & A-48/f...has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest. Banded on April 30th as A-62 & A-63.

The TH nest of...K-81/m & K-82/f...had TWO eggs...laid February 25th & February 29th.
April 14, 2016: Dr. Sharpe stated that the egg/s were over a week past hatching (5 week incubation).
April 15, 2016: Dr. Sharpe went to the nest and removed One Egg and retrieved some broken egg shell from the bowl. He said, "Collecting the egg for contaminant analysis before it breaks. We haven't done anything since 2008."
This is the first time an egg hasn't hatched on this nest since they started nesting in 2003.

The WE nest of...K-01/m & K-91/f...has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest. Banded on May 10th as K-60 & K-62.

Please continue to post observations in the usual way, but should you observe a parent switch or notice that the adult is not on the nest, it would be helpful to all of us if the time(s) could also be noted/posted...along with whatever else you observe happening on the nest at that time.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011

We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

FP 7.39
Cam zooms out and begins to pan to the right and through the gorge.

7.40
Reaching the V, no eagles visible. Cam zooms in some, and begins to pan left. Stopping to view. It pans left. Zooming in and out at spot to spot.

7.41
We reach up behind the nest at the rock caves, zoom in and out, then left to the end.

7.42
Panning down to the tree left of the nest, then down to zoomed out view of nest.

7.43
Zooming in back to nest view, then in on the stump she brought in the other day. Cam zooms out again to view the brook, then as far out as it can go.

7.44
It pans right again along the gorge, zooms in some, checks the rock formations to the V again.

7.46
Cam goes DBS, then makes its way back to the empty nest view

SC 7.52 >>:
Looks like there may was another delivery. A62 stands on the 3 tugging on prey. A63 stands center, watching her.

7.54
Yes, it is a very large fish, still flapping as she tugs.....or so it seemed.

7.55
A63 waits patiently for her to fill up.

A62 wingers around the rear of the nest. Then returns to the fish. She steps away again and A63 steps over and takes his share.

8.08
A62 does a PS to the 1, then flaps over to the 9. She wingers and heads to the 6. She looks outward and sneezes. A63 eats at the 3-4

8.09
A62 watches A63 eat

SC ... I went into Explore and checked when the first delivery was made.

6:09am .. A-48 arrives from the left with a big >>:

A-62 is the winner from the rush to claim it.

Then A-40 arrives from the right with a >>: and A-62 turns to claim that one.

A-63 then steals the first fish.

6:10am .. Dad flies off. Mom moves over to get the fish that A-62 left and starts to feed her.

6:11am .. A-63 has left the big fish and moves to Mom .. steals whatever is remaining of that fish.

6:12am .. A-48 now moves to the rear and starts to feed A-62 from the big fish .. A-63 moves to get share.

6:29am .. Mom flies off.

SC .. Still checking the Explore video.

7:46am .. A-40 delivers another big >>:

A-62 the winner of the scramble to claim it.

7:48am .. Dad leaves and A-62 works on the fish with A-63 watching and waiting.

8:07am .. A-62 moves away and A-63 claims it.

8:39am he was still working on it.

8:45am .. A-63 walks away from the fish.

8:47am .. A-62 checking out the remains of the first fish at the rear left. Then she moves to the right and picks up the remains of the fish that A-63 just left. Not much there .. but she finishes it.
