2016 Nesting Season!

The BC nest of...K-76/m & A-32/f...has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest.

The SC nest of...A-40/m & A-48/f...has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest. Banded on April 30th as A-62 & A-63.

The TH nest of...K-81/m & K-82/f...had TWO eggs...laid February 25th & February 29th.
April 14, 2016: Dr. Sharpe stated that the egg/s were over a week past hatching (5 week incubation).
April 15, 2016: Dr. Sharpe went to the nest and removed One Egg and retrieved some broken egg shell from the bowl. He said, "Collecting the egg for contaminant analysis before it breaks. We haven't done anything since 2008."
This is the first time an egg hasn't hatched on this nest since they started nesting in 2003.

The WE nest of...K-01/m & K-91/f...has TWO ^"^ ^"^ on their nest. Banded on May 10th as K-60 & K-62.

Please continue to post observations in the usual way, but should you observe a parent switch or notice that the adult is not on the nest, it would be helpful to all of us if the time(s) could also be noted/posted...along with whatever else you observe happening on the nest at that time.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

These nests are all in California...so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011

We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

A62 doing some big wingercises. She sure likes hopping and flapping. A63 just watches her, then moves forward to watch to the front. Waiting for breakfast.

A62 continues to romp and play with items on the nest. She wingers and bites her own wing. A63 finds a bit of food at the 6, A62 moves in for a taste.

6.51
They both preen a little. Then A62 begins to winger around the nest again

6.52
A63 begins to play with that green net, rope, line, whatever it is. Throw it overboard, will ya.

SC between 7:05 to 7:30 a.m.
Adult came to the nest twice: once from the left and once from the right.
Neither time seemed they brought any food . . . I am not sure.

SC .. 9:03am .. A-62 starts to tug on the branches at the right side.

Now she moves over to the left and tugs at whatever A-63 is working on.

They start to share it until A-62 pulls it further away from him.
