Jo .. this is what I have on the Conclusion re the TH nest last August .. I don't recall anything further being posted .. but may have missed it.

On April 15th Dr. Sharpe went to the nest and removed One egg and retrieved some broken egg shell from the bowl.
He said " Collecting the egg for contaminant analysis before it breaks .. we haven't done anything since 2008"

This was posted on the IWS Facebook page the next day.
“ I removed the egg from the Two Harbor nest yesterday because it was at least one week past expected hatch date and we wanted to analyze the contents for contaminants before it broke in the nest. Upon opening the egg, it was filled with a yellow liquid, so if it was ever fertile, then the embryo died early in development. There was also a sharp rock in the egg cup (you can see it next to the egg in the photo), which probably didn't help with keeping eggs intact. I've included a video of candling the egg once I got it back to the office and you can see that there is no evidence of a chick (it should be mostly dark, except for the air cell) once the chick is close to hatching."

What happened to the question? I didn't dream it did I?

I can delete this post if no longer relevant.

Sorry Pat, I didn't expect to get a response, so I deleted it.

Thank you for the info. I thought I recalled he was going to send it to the lab, but must have been thinking of something else.

Thanks again

A48 is still sticking around, so she must not be done yet :X:

SC Hard to hear the news about the second broken egg. I hope they are able to have another and figure out how to keep it safe. :X:

Posted on the IWS Facebook page:

"The Sauces birds laid and lost another egg today. Looking at the history of the nest, it has failed in 5 of the 9 previous nesting attempts, with 2 different males and 3 different females. Male A-28 was present 2008-2011, and the male A-40 from 2012 to present. Female A-02 was present in 2008-2009 and failed both years. Female A-27 was present from 2010 until she was displaced by A-48 in 2013. A-27 was successful every year except 2013, when ravens took the eggs. Female A-48 was unsuccessful in 2014 and 2015, and had two chicks last year. Why the eggs are breaking so quickly with the current pair is hard to say. Unfortunately, we can't get information on potential contaminates from eggshells; only from egg contents."
