<::: PLEASE READ

Sad News.

The SC nest of ... A-40/m & A-48/f ... had ONE egg ... laid January 31st.
Lost February 1st.
A second egg was laid on February 3rd. Unfortunately this egg broke a couple of hours later. Cause unknown.
A third egg was laid on February 6th. Unfortunately this egg broke a half hour later. Cause unknown.
A fourth egg was laid on February 9th. Unfortunately this egg also broke soon afterwards. Cause unknown.
A fifth egg was laid on February 12th. Unfortunately this egg also broke soon afterwards. Cause unknown.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

. . .ALL NEST CAMS - http://www.iws.org/interactive_nestchat_allUstream.html
. . .BC = Bald Canyon on San Clemente Island - Temporarily unavailable
. . . FP = Fraser Point - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_ch00eKUn4 Temporarily unavailable
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon (WMP) - http://media1.vcoe.org/eaglecam2 Temporarily unavailable
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ftp5UhFJX0
. . .SC = Sauces Canyon (Explore) - http://explore.org/live-cams/player/sauces-bald-eagle
. . .TH = Two Harbors - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbv8tDPFAS4
. . .WE = West End - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sU3HWE6Vg-Q

These nests are all in California ... so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread ... and if you must use it ... because you are referring to something on a previous page ... then take TEXT only ... never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011

We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011

We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Bringing Forward

Posted 2/16/17 by Dr. Sharpe on IWS Chat:

"The new Explore.org antennas are still having problems providing the internet for the West End and Two Harbors cams. I have to go and physically turn my antenna back on at the ridge above Two Harbors to go back to the IWS system. I'm off the island until Sunday, so will be able to get up there Monday or Tuesday, unless all the roads are closed down because of the rain."

Posted 2/19/17 on the IWS Facebook page:

" All roads and trails on Catalina Island, except the paved road to the airport, are closed until further notice due to the recent rains. Therefore, I will not be able to reset the antenna for the West End cam or switch over to our antennas for the internet feed to the mainland for a couple days."

Posted 2/21/17 by Dr. Sharpe on IWS Chat:

"I'll try to make it to the Two Harbors tower to switch over to my antennas and get the Two Harbors nest back online. West End currently will be a 5-15 mile hike each way, so I'll wait a couple more days to be able to drive as close as possible."

Posted 2/20/17 by Dr. Sharpe on IWS Chat:

" The Fraser Point Bald Eagle Cam has been removed from the selection on the All Nest Cams list.

We used the Fraser Point antenna for something else. We may replace it we get a chance and there is some activity there."

SC 6.02
Very distant calls and trumpets heard

6.05
A48 whines in the distance. Then A40 flies in from the right front. He looks around, then steps to the bowl. He begins to dig and fluff as he keeps watch for A48

SC 6.06
A48 then flies in from the right. She lands at the 5, A40 digs in the bowl. Both track something overhead right to left.

6.07
A48 pushes her way into the bowl. She pulls up wads of fluff and digs. A40 stands at the 9-10 scanning the area.

6.08
A48 gives A40 a little nudge, then returns to her digging and fluffing. A40 turns to the 9 and flies left. A48 tracks, then goes back to work
