<::: PLEASE READ

Sad News.

The SC nest of ... A-40/m & A-48/f ... had ONE egg ... laid January 31st.
Lost February 1st.
A second egg was laid on February 3rd. Unfortunately this egg broke a couple of hours later. Cause unknown.
A third egg was laid on February 6th. Unfortunately this egg broke a half hour later. Cause unknown.
A fourth egg was laid on February 9th. Unfortunately this egg also broke soon afterwards. Cause unknown.
A fifth egg was laid on February 12th. Unfortunately this egg also broke soon afterwards. Cause unknown.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

. . .ALL NEST CAMS - http://www.iws.org/interactive_nestchat_allUstream.html
. . .BC = Bald Canyon on San Clemente Island - http://www.ustream.tv/channel/mzGQjgFW5e3
. . . FP = Fraser Point - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_ch00eKUn4 Temporarily unavailable

. . .WE = West End - Temporarily unavailable - See February Catalina Island Update
. . .WE = West End Overlook - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_A02qWWai0

These nests are all in California ... so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread ... and if you must use it ... because you are referring to something on a previous page ... then take TEXT only ... never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011
09:34 AM
We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Eagle Guy,Mar 28 2011

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

Eagle Guy,May 12 2011
04:45 PM
We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

Bringing Forward

Posted by Dr. Sharpe 2/25/17 on IWS Chat:

"I'll try to get out to the Two Harbors tower on Monday and rewire things so that most things are going through my equipment. The Explore equipment just seems to have too many problems and is currently unreachable (has to be manually rebooted on-site)."

SC 5.40
Sounds like A40 calling and trumpeting in the somewhat near distance

5.44
Then both call and trumpet. Lots of calls and trumpets

5.52
A48 cries and cries in the near distance, A40 chirps now and again

5.56
Lots more calls and trumpets, sounding a bit closer

5.58
A48 screeches a bit, she sounds more distant again...........maybe the wind has something to do with it

5.59
Cam buffers

A40 flies in from the right front, he has a look around. Then A48 floats in from the right rear, she watches A40 work in the bowl. She steps in to help

6.02
They both dig in the bowl, A48 appears a bit anxious

6.03
They watch out to the left as they work.

6.34
Without a peep, the Shrike flies up to the cam, then begins to call lightly

SC 6.38
A40 flies in from the right, he plays with the wing at 10, then steps over to the 8 to pick at that stringy nestovers. His tail tip looks red

6.41
Then he begins to move the branch that sticks up at 8-9. He scans the area as he works

6.43
After keeping watch to the left for a while, A40 sets his feet, has another scan along the left, then flies to the left front

WE 6.53
Cam is up and zooming in on the nest? Can't see anyone at the moment.

6.55
Cam zooms back out, then pans along the left, showing sparsely cloudy skies.

6.56
It continues to the cam pole, then further left, viewing the hill/mtn terrain.

6.57
Then back to the waters edge to the right side of the nest. The sun rises behind the hills

6.58
Cam moves on again to the open sea. Panning the horizon of sea and clouds.

6.59
Then back to the distant peak and nest area
