Itís the last San Miguel Island update of the season. It was an excellent week with peregrine falcon fledglings confirmed at the Crook Point (4 fledglings), Bat Rock (1 fledgling), Prince Island (2 fledglings), and Hoffman Point (2 fledglings) nests, for a grand total of 9 fledglings on San Miguel. All-in-all, a good season!

These past 3 seasons on San Miguel Island have been memorable for me. Iím grateful for having had the chance to explore this special place with the peregrines, other wildlife, and other researchers and rangers. Iíll part with some photos of the critters I shared the island with. Thanks for joining me!

A Hoffman Point peregrine perched on a rock surrounded by live forever (Dudleya) which was once a rare plant on the island but is now abundant:

Ravens were frequent companions on the trails and island foxes were a treat to see:

Rock wrens hopping and singing kept me entertained as I hiked along the rockier slopes on the island:

Song sparrows were constant companions, filling the air with their buzzes and trills:

The Crook female showed her displeasure with me me as I hiked down a ridge to check on her recent fledglings:

No worries Crook mom, I'm leaving! Sad to go, but glad to have had the experience.

Thanks for following these IWS updates from San Miguel Island! All the best for the rest of 2017!
