<::: PLEASE READ

The Nest Observations/Nest Watch thread remains open...as long as there are cameras...which are operational...to watch.

Normally the VCOE and the IWS work on the cam equipment during the fall/winter...so the cams may go off from time to time...but we are normally advised by them if they are working in the area.

Times of events/changes on a nest are a great help to those of us who video when we are editing the footage.

Just a few Gentle Reminders about posting on this thread. (Helps to save time when reading through it.)

Please remember that it is the CHANNEL ISLANDS NESTS ONLY, either on or off camera, that we post our observations/comments about.

There are FIVE IWS nests with cameras online, so it is important to know WHICH NEST you are observing.

Please put the Initials at the start of your post.

These nests are all in California...so it's Pacific Time on this coast.

We prefer that the Quote Button is not used on this thread...and if you must use it...because you are referring to something on a previous page...then take TEXT only...never captures or video.

Thanks!

“A request from Dr. Sharpe”

We are recording the activity at the Two Harbors and West End nests so that we can identify all the prey brought to the nests to calibrate the results of the nest excavations at the end of the season. I'd appreciate if you could continue to report the times that prey are brought to the nest so that later we can go through the recordings more quickly to identify the items. Thanks.

Maybe prey delivery posts could be started with  >>: even if it is a bird or unidentified,  so that we can spot them more easily.

To make it easier for the biologists to see the prey deliveries, please limit the use of the blue fish to prey deliveries only.

Begin your post with the nest initials, followed by the time of delivery & the blue fish.

We are recording prey deliveries at all the online nests, so please continue to use the blue fish for deliveries at any nest.

Thank you!

"West End cams are back online. Looks like they have been busy. I hope to get to Two Harbors this weekend."

"I don't think the TH birds have visited either nest, so I started building at their old one yesterday."

WE 7.17
Ravens swarm and dive bomb K91. Some actually touch her as they pass. A couple land and she chases and leaps at them. Then she begins to call and trumpet for K01

7.18
Some land on the cam and dive from there.

7.22
The attack subsides, but she watches down the front. Then begins to preen

WE -

Were those crows or ravens, Jo?

My initial thought was ravens, but I was still waking up, so I'm not sure.

WE .. K-01 and K-91 have been busy this morning .. early start with K-01 on the nest rock at 6:42am .. then K-91 arrived at 6:46am. K-01 flew off at 6:51am .. he returned at 6:54am .. he left at 7:03am .. 7:16am Ravens attack K-91 .. thanks for the video Jann. 7:37am .. K-01 returned. 7:41 a little beaking .. a minute later K-91 flew off to the right and K-01 followed her at 7:43am.

7:45am .. K-91 arrived front right with a bushy branch which she tried to place at the front.

7:46am .. K-01 arrived top left with a long forked branch that he got tangled up in as he tried to place it at the rear. As he turns to face right K-91 grabs an end and they both try to place it on the right side .. it's bouncy and flips over towards K-01 so he grabs it and puts it at the rear.

7:48am .. it's hanging part way over the right side so K-91 reaches over and starts to trim it!
As K-01 lifts it up it brings another branch with it .. he places them at the rear. If these branches stay on the nest through any winter storms this nest should be very safe for the chicks when young.

7:49am .. K-91 returns to her bushy branch .. K-01 continues to work at the rear.

The battle of the branches continue then we go to Highlights.

8:07am .. K-91 now on the nest rock and K-01 at the rear.

8:11am .. K-91 turned and flew off to the right. K-01 tracked her then he flew off to the right at 8:12am.

WE - Edited video of K-91 bringing a very unusual branch to the nest.
Looked like a branch with fluff attached.
